Greetings small-business-forum Members!

Hello everyone,

My name is Dave, I live and work in New Jersey. This is actually my first Forum experience so hopefully I don't break too many rules by accident my first time around. I apologize in advance for any of these errors.

About me:

~ I've always been interested in Entrepreneurship even as a young child - I suppose I always liked the idea of doing my own thing, taking risks, and being creative.

~ I was a machinist for a few years before going to college.

~ Graduated with honors in Economics & Entrepreneurship this past year. (25 now, hopefully my age will not be a problem)

~ Since then I've worked for a few startups that are primarily tech based - WPsite, StratIq, and now 99Robots. Basically, I'm involved in digital marketing, content marketing, SEO, web design, plugin development, & anything WordPress related. My current project is creating a platform that acts as an on call webmaster for small site modifications and website maintenance, backups, security updates, etc (99Robots).

~ I've also became a board member on a NYC based non-profit that teaches scientific literacy for the layperson. There, my team and I coordinate most of the marketing/communication efforts to back the very skilled & talented M.D's and PhD's that give the talks/seminars.

My involvement:

I'm looking to teach, learn, and connect.

~ Overall, I love helping people out in any way I can. So I'd like to help out any group members here as much as possible.

~ I love to learn, and I'm sure there are many opportunities for me to learn in this forum as well.

~ It'd be great to connect with any interested members of this forum.

Thanks for providing this forum for collaboration (admins & participants) and I look forward to getting to know/helping out anyone here.

Best Places To Present To Investors

Hello! :D

My company is looking for investors. We make 3D printers, and lately our prototype has been in development. We have invested a lot of money into it, and we think it's time to really start wanting investors. The question is: are there any investment conventions or something where I can go on stage and speak about it and hopefully get investors? I live in Maine, so anything near Boston would be great.

THANKS

How to get more clients for a carpet cleaning business?

My father owns a carpet cleaning business and does not do as much business in the winter and has been struggling lately. How can he get more apartment complex clients?

Need some advice on how to enter this in the books...

Hi. I need some advice on how to enter this in the books.

Here's the situation...

I've worked out an arrangement with a manufacturer in Vietnam to help them sell an electronics device in South America. I can give Vietnam a component (chip) that I buy from a company in China/HongKong. China ships it to Vietnam. Vietnam uses it to make their electronic gadget and sells it to South America.

Each gadget that Vietnam sells they give me a royalty.

Let's say the chip is $0.90/unit and I get a royalty of $10/unit.

If I buy 1000 chips from HK, I pay $900 + $100 S&H (to go from HK to Vietnam). HK give me an invoice for $1,000. I wire $1,000 and they send the chips to Vietnam. Every quarter Vietnam tells me how much they sell (i.e., 500 units) and I invoice them (i.e., $5,000).

A nice arrangement, but...

How do I show this in the accounting books?

And do I need to pay any type of use tax/reseller tax (my C corp is in California)?

Do the chips go on my books as inventory, or can I call it an expense and just report the royalty earnings?

So confused as to how to classify it.

Any ideas on how I should handle this?

Appreciate any help.

Thanks

Blaine

PS: I use Quickbooks Pro for Mac.

Filing Taxes for an LLC

Hello Guys,

I have a question about filing taxes for my LLC that is in status for completion in March 2015. I did spend on some items and etch for my business. What should I do? Can I file or wait for next year? I currently have a certificate of reservation from NY and is currently waiting for the processing to go through. Thanks
