What's the deal with laptop sizes?

I'm getting a little sick of laptops getting smaller and smaller. They market them as desktop replacements, but to me 14,13 and 12 inch laptops are hell to actually work on.

What happened to 17" laptops?
Why is 13" the hot new thing now?

Is it just me?
