Roman Video Game. NEED ADVICE

Ever since I was very little running an indie game company has been one of my number one dreams. Today I am currently working to make it a reality with two other beginning game developers. Our game is centered around a Roman Arena where players battle it out using an assortment of different weapons. We want to implement wild animals in the arena, different god powers, as well as destructible pillars. We are currently working on the development and by today we'll have our first asset, a destructible pillar. In addition to deveolpment I am taking up the business side of things. I need some advice on how I can best market my game to stand out from the others new games coming out.

Any tips about meeting new prospects....

My whole business revolves around meeting new prospects whether it's people or businesses. I have not been having the best of luck meeting people and businesses interested in doing business with me. I feel like I am running out ways and methods of meeting new people and business, so does anyone have this problem and if you do what did you do to increase the number of prospects you can reach?

How to do Facebook Ads for a recruitment app?

Hi guys,

I'm new here and don't think if this is appropriate to ask this question.

I have a new recruitment app targeting the US. I want to do Facebook advertising, but I can't see any similar types of ads.

Most app ads are utilities and games. Is it because it's not suitable for a recruitment app? such as LinkedIn or Indeed?

I do have some Facebook ad experience but mainly in utilities.

What do you think? Do you think I should target elsewhere?

Thanks!!

How are you preparing for Black Friday?

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are basically for big eCommerce businesses and giant marketplaces (think eBay and Amazon).

How can a small online business take advantage of these occasions, which actually kick of the holiday shopping season?

Any advice will be very much appreciated.

Hello S.B.F People, WestsideFreeman Here!

Hello everyone!

I go by the name "WestsideFreeman" on the radio show that I host every Monday mornings at 10:30am EST on a radio station local to my area by the name of "WGIV: The Soul Of Charlotte" in the Charlotte regional area. My show is called "Questions With No Answers" and is about society today, issues that need to be addressed and other such areas of concern where I pose questions that need to be asked, but aren't being asked, and therefore receiving no answers.. Hence the name "Questions With No Answers". Aside from that, I am a culinary artist, a writer, a engineer, entrepreneur, a social activist, and a representative to "Angelic House Studios" which is a art studio started by my brother and cousin which I have been tasked with building business for. Essentially, its a very young, new business that I have been given order of to grow and develop furthermore.

All of these things I do are separate small parts of areas I am working to become proficient in so that I may be able to begin the very daunting and difficult work of building my very own business in which I already have plans in constant development for. As for why I'm here, I hope to make connections and network with like-minded people who are interested in, working on, or have done the same; as well as gain a considerable amount of knowledge of the business world and how to understand the complex order in which things operate in today's world as I attempt to jump the fence to the other side and enter the upper level manager/creator side of the business world. I'd like to take the time to thank everyone in advance for sharing your knowledge and offering your suggestions as well as your guidance and help. I look forward to becoming a well known member of S.B.F as I join you people in conversation.

P.S. For those of you who are curious about the radio talk show that I host, the link on my profile is not only a way to contact me, but also a way to view my show page and to find out even more information and other links to other areas in which I work with, in, or in partnership.

To all of you here at S.B.F, thank you for your time, and it's a pleasure to meet all of you.

Advertising Website With Flyers

Everyone has seen links on forums and other forms of web advertisements, unless they've been living under a rock for the past 15-20 years. Sure, these forms of advertisement for a website can still be effective. People do sometimes click links and even banner ads at times. However, what people aren't used to seeing is an advertisement for an online website offline. It may cause people to legitimately become intrigued with what is on the website and check it out. I'm thinking of putting up some fliers for the website I'm creating. If I thought it looked interesting, I might check out a website that I saw a flyer for..... though I've never seen such a thing. Thoughts?

Questions about US businesses

Hey guys,

I'm running a digital marketing business based in Canada and I'm going to promote my services to US market. I'm asking for help to answer a few questions:

1. My prices are by default in CAD and they are shown on the website. Do Americans accept to deal with CAD? Is it something normal, awkward or bad? Or should I set up a new USD pricing for them(in an Excel sheet)? What do you advise me to do?

2. What is the best way to collect payment from US businesses to Canadian businesses?

3. My company offers monthly hosting(recurring fees), but the customer can cancel at anytime. Besides the invoice, what kind of papers do I need to provide to US businesses? detailed contract(long 5 page document), short service agreement, any specific document that need to be signed?

Thanks so much for your help

Business IT Automation

I'm software developer for last 15 years. Last couple years I was involved into different projects which target was to help save money for big corporations by applying some sort of automation. For example to reduce/avoid and automate paper work, and/or provide some sort of reports and so on.

And it come to mind mind that I can create some small company to help small/middle business to come up with similar strategy
plan (with help of further realization) of how we can help them to save money by integrating modern IT technology.
I already have some people with me who can help with realization, but I want to know your opinion,
what can be good start for that, and probably someone have some good hints of how to find first client.

Thank you. And really appreciated your time.

Coffee and cookies - think it would work??

I've been dreaming of owning my own business for many years. I know the market is saturated with cupcake places, so I thought I'd research and investigate the idea of a small storefront or even part of a house selling only coffee (and tea, cocoa, etc.), and half a dozen types of cookies.

Any input, name ideas, advice would be very much appreciated!!

Thank you!

Little Hi, Little Hey

Hello all, I am excited to have stumble on this forum. I am excited to learn from everyone on this forum. I have a new company that I have started that has lots of moving parts. I like a challenge and I am ready to tackle it! I don't know what else I should say other than I am a wife, a mom of 5 and I've had my own businesses since the age of 19 and I'm 33 now. Now on to digging into the threads! :o:o

Buying into a Start-Up Company and Valuing the Percentage Stake

Hello to All!

I've been approached by a small group looking to start up a business locally and presented with an offer to "buy-in" to the company in return for capital. The group has put together a business plan based on similar business models already existing in the area and prior experience. The plan contains all of the necessary info. for valuing a business and projects the cash flow out to Year 5. The numbers, although quite rough, do present what I feel is an accurate projection for the business. Since the business is retail based, some uncertainty (due to sales and material costs) is accounted for in the projections. The group already consists of 3 partners, I would be the 4th. I would contribute minimal hours (15 hours or less) per week to the business in order to help with start-up related activities, however this would likely increase.

The offer:

$30,000 USD investment in return for 3% ownership in year(s) 1-3 and then adding an additional 2% stake by Year 5 (for a total of 5%). After Year 5, an additional 2% stake would be made available for purchase to bring my total share up to 7%.

Without going into great detail, the initial evaluation (cost) of the business that includes construction, equipment, and start-up costs is $590,000. The annual revenue for Year 1 is estimated to be $438,000 and is projected to increase by 25% for Year 2 (due to sales) and then projected to increase by 15% in growth for Year(s) 3,4,5.

I would appreciate if some successful business gurus could help me:

1. Understand if you would consider this a "fair" offering for this type of scenario;

2. Value the ownership stake offered (whether or not the stake offered is reasonable for the $30,000);

3. How should I determine how to value the additional offerings after Year 5. Should I put some sort of clause into the agreement to determine how the additional 2% will be priced or distributed?

Thanks to everyone in advance!

Funding for Start-Ups

I deal with business owners of all forms on a daily basis. All of them being at different stages in their development. What I see a lot is that not a lot of them are really educated when it comes to what type of funding they should go after in their particular situation. There are a number of different types of funding choices out there but the big ones would be collateral based, financial based, and debt based. All of these are beneficial in their own way depending on the situation of the business owner. However, I have seen a lot of business owners take the wrong form of funding and it ended badly for them and ended up doing more harm than good.

Every business owner should do as much research as possible before jumping into bed with any lender. Fully educate yourself on the type of funding, the terms, the payback structure, etc. As the client, your goal should be to know the product so well that you could work for the company you're using. The safest route for any company big or small when getting started would be establishing business credit. This is a healthy way to get the funding you need to grow or start your business without risking too much personally. Below are the top 5 benefits to establishing credit for your business.

Our Business credit lines do not report to the personal credit of the business owner. This means that the business owner can use the strength of their personal credit in order to establish business lines or credit that only report to the business. This is huge for a new business owner who would without knowing the consequences typically put huge startup expenses on his personal credit and lower his scores drastically. Any time you get above 30% utilized it affects your score greatly. This will also affect the ability of the business owner to use his personal credit for other things in his life, like personal things!

No Collateral required! This is important from a risk standpoint. Many new business owners are blinded by their vision of the business. This makes it easy to have tunnel vision and only see your business as a definite success, so putting up your property against a loan is a no brainer. There is obviously a big risk in this especially if we are talking about a large sum of money and your family home. If the business fails, worst case scenario you lose that property.

Stated Income (No Proven Financials). Some, not all business lines of credit are stated income. Stated income simply means that the client does not have to provide a bank statement proving how much the business is making or prove his personal income. This is great for startups or companies who just haven't made anything yet or are operating at a loss. Or if the business owner does not make a lot personally but wants to start a business which requires a large amount of start-up capital.

Keep all your equity! The last thing a new business owner wants to do is give up a piece of their company. However, this is the route a lot choose to go. Business owners that do not know their options often choose to go the route of an investor who takes an equity stake in the company in return for the capital infusion the business needs.

There are a lot of options out there for business owners. The best thing is always to do your due diligence before jumping into anything. Make sure you are in full understanding of what you are signing up for and always ask a lot of questions.

If interested in seeing if you qualify at no cost or have and questions click HERE and a consultant will reach out within a business day

Refurbishing Devices

I have an idea to repair broken or damaged devices that are sold for cheap on ebay and then refurbish/repair them. After repairs, I would try and sell them for more than I spent on the devices and on replacement parts. One problem is that I have little experience in repairing devices but I think most damages will be pretty obvious and I'm willing to spend the time to learn about the parts of the devices and how they work.

The devices I have seen on ebay that sell for cheap are broken 3DS's and worn phones. I have done some browsing on the internet and have found cheap parts for these devices like new screens and new casings. With some more research, I feel that this business could turn me a profit. If anyone has any advice or questions I would definitely appreciate it.

New to Business

Hello everyone! My name is Zachary Croteau and I'm interested in starting a business in the technology field. From this website I hope to make some business connections, and learn from people who are already doing well with their small businesses. As a start, I have been thinking of starting a business in which I repair simple, broken electronics and then resell them for a profit. Any tips on the topic would be appreciated and I hope to learn from this site.

Two businesses, competing interests

I own two businesses which most often are beneficial to each other. One is brick and mortar, and we serve people from about an hour away in all directions. It's a niche industry, and while it's gaining popularity, most cities only have a few. Larger cities have 5 to 6 at most. We're in a medium sized city, and we are one of 2.

Our second business gained steam from the first. We produce a custom product that we sell as an add on to clients in our first business. It's an ecommerce business that now sells both retail and to other business owners in the industry from our first business for resale to their clients. It's brand new at just a month old. It obviously has more room to grow as our market is national and possibly international. We already have 15 resellers, so it's seems it may do well. It's just too early to tell.

We just had an potential reseller approach us. We had no clue they even existed, but they are just an hour south of our brick and mortar business. They will almost definitely cut into our business for our b&m, so I'm debating on how to approach it from our second business. I feel the second business has more room to grow. We are the first of our kind in this business with this business model to resell. The item is just an add on to the service of the first business, so for the majority of clients, it won't be a make or break if they choose our new competitor or our b&m business. I am leaning towards accepting this new business as a reseller, but wanted to get some feedback on case to see if there are any considerations I am missing.

Sorry for all the first business second business talk. It really is such a niche, so I'm trying to leave the exact industry out of it for now.

Change PO Agent

Our business was trying to change the registered agent and business address of our company and had sent the required paperwork and filing fee to the our state department of assessment and taxation by filing the resolution to change principal office or resident agent. A letter then arrived, on 10/16/16, from that department with a receipt stapled to the envelope we sent the paperwork with. The receipt said that it was filed on 9/27/16 and it listed our company and that we have paid the 25$ fee. However using the LLC lookup website for our state, it lists our company with our old resident agent and principal office address.

Is this a issue that our company needs to sort out with the IRS or will the webpage be updated soon?

Options for having offices in two states?

I have a business services company where a lot of my clients use services for filing entities, getting certified documents, etc. in Delaware. My corporate office is in Delaware, but I live in the Richmond, VA area. I am already organized and legit in DE as an LLC, but I also want to have an office out of Richmond so that I can help with the same services in Virginia. My question, is it better to file in VA as a foreign entity (with my DE company being the parent) or just use my home address as a Virginia office and have the business be a domestic entity?

Best marketing ROI when your marketing investment is almost nothing?

Hi All,
I launched an online pet supply business this year. Things have been going understandably slow and I'm okay with that for the most part. But looking forward to next year I want to plan for a budget that includes some money for marketing. Is it reasonable (or at least not crazy) to plan for marketing to be my largest expense for the year?

This year my expenses were primarily startup (website platform, business registration, inventory) and a little bit for promotional materials. Now that all of that is established, I want to focus on marketing next year to get my sales volume up. Here are the things I've been been doing this year:

  • posting on facebook, twitter and pinterest (lots of site visits, a few sales)
  • working personal networks (lots of site visits, a few sales)
  • sending out discount codes (largely ignored/unredeemed)
  • vending in person at local pet events (good onsite sales, no followup sales from brochures/coupons handed out)
  • one promotion with a major pet blog (cost the most, tons of site visits, no sales resulted)

So I'm getting a feel for what works and what doesn't in terms of low cost marketing. If I budget some money to spend on more formal marketing (like the pet blog promotion), how can I judge in advance if that will be money well spent? I'm guessing I will be able to spend a total of $200 next year on marketing. Can I increase my sales on a marketing budget that low?

Tutoring

I recently started a tutoring business in Toronto, primarily in one corner of the city. It started as kind of a fluke, by posting a bunch of flyers and thinking that I'd get maybe 1 or 2 clients from it. Now I sub-contract tutors for a variety of subjects (still looking to develop this). I am new to sub-contracting and with a teaching and not a business degree, had to figure it out based on an amalgamation of websites and YouTube videos. I also used the contract model from the old tutoring place I worked at. I focused heavily on trying to improve what is wrong with existing tutoring companies, and rely on my education as an educator to keep the business honest, fair and more about education than money.

I make most of my income through tutoring on my own, and right now I maybe make $20 / week from the sub-contractors.Yeah, it sounds like pennies, but I also make anywhere between $400 - 600 a week from my own clients (many of which I also work with during the day and not just after school). I plan to further develop the sub-contracting idea, as I think it's a great way to [1] take care of clients who I can't provide services to and [2] make extra cash on top of my own tutoring.

Overall, tutoring is becoming a new booming field, much like software development.

Agency Businesses: How to Stop Poaching Clients / Contractors

I run a tutoring business and I haven't yet really had a chance to witness this because I haven't been contracting tutors for long enough (usually, I still do the majority of the tutoring myself). However, it is obviously a problem for any agency-type business. How I plan to deal with such issues in the future include the following:

  • Ensure the contractors are paid fairly
  • Provide incentives to the contractors for staying with the company and not taking students on privately (i.e. letting them know you trust their loyalty); not giving them clients or finding clients for them if they poach
  • I have a non-compete clause in my work agreement but it is very brief and to-the-point
  • Ensure tutors are loyal enough to resist 'temptation' from poaching clients and to always report such activity (added incentives, such as a small bonus or a gift, could be given)

What are some ways in which you or others you know who run an agency business deal with poaching contractors / clients? Do you think it is inevitable? Can you have a company with zero poachers?

I do know that some non-compete clauses can be pretty tricky to push... not every client will want to sign one, and neither will every tutor. If you are taking a large cut of the money from the tutor (or contractor) the client may feel as though they are being duped (and same with the tutor). Some companies go so far as to charge liquidation damages if one should breach the contract. I mean, if you are charging the client $45 / hr and giving the tutor $20, it doesn't seem fair to trap either party in such an agreement.

looking for software opinions

I've just started a small rafting rental company in Denver this will be my second company website to design and I'm looking for help on picking a reservation software for the website that also has pos integration any advice and help would be much appreciated

Tax question

My wife and I work together all though we have only been married for 3 years she has worked for me for 22. She never took a check in those years and now would like to file as self employed with me. She is looking to get credit with SS I think. If we file her as self employed with me or a form 1065 how will this affect my taxes? What would be the best for both off us?

Dropshipping - what are some of the better Honest & reliable ones ???

Hi

I am new to the world of drop shipping and would like a straightforward and simple method of operating one.

I would like to ask you if you know of any good , reliable & honest drop shippers who will provide various incentives such as a website to sell products from, (I have been told that some do)

I am hoping for a drop shipping company that will provide me with an automated selling system.

Also I would like to deal with a drop shipper that does not charge a fee.

I should mention I know the basic concept of drop shipping BUT I would like a simplified explanation of how to go about operating a drop shipping business .

I would also add that I live in Canada and do not have any kind of merchant account but I do have a PayPal account - would a PayPal account be enough to operate a drop shipping business ?

I do expect to be involved in the work but I am trying/hoping to find a method & Co. so that eventually work on my part will minimized but I do NOT expect it to be a eliminated, (of course though that would be a nice - ).

Thank you Craig

Running US business from UK.

I have an existing successful small business.
I source specialist products from Europe and sell them to Labs and Research Institutions in the US and Canada.
I don't even need to handle the products since they get shipped directly to the customer.
Basically I attend trade shows and do the sales processing in the USA. To do this I need an official presence in the US.

Within a few years I need to move to the UK and be resident there for @ five years. (I'm a dual citizen, this is so my American wife can gain UK citizenship.)
Even though my wife will be limited in time outside the UK I will be able to leave as often as I need to.

I don't want to sell the business and I don't want to hire anyone. I do less than 50 sales a year which is enough, so the paperwork is not that bad.

I was wondering if I should maintain a property in the US, so that I have an address, and perhaps reincorporate from CA to Nevada to keep taxes simpler.
And then I believe I can handle sales via regular visits/email/phone.

Would appreciate any thoughts/suggestions.

Tax help

Hello everyone, my name is Dave, I am new to the forum and trying to learn some information about claiming the most net income while paying the least amount of actual tax. (isnt everyone lol)

I am an auto dealer, a real estate broker and a landlord and am trying to secure bank financing for working capital. My credit score is in the 750-770 range, I have 100% on time payment history, I own a million dollars in paid off assets (real estate) and yet I've been declined for simple commercial mortgages, lines of credit and even a non owner occupied home equity due to low reported income.

I am a complete novice when it comes to income tax, deductions vs exemptions, depreciation, self employment tax, passive income tax ext.

I am seeking advice on tactics (if there are any) for claiming a certain amount of net profit, but paying less actual tax if this makes sense. For example, I believe you are allowed a $3,000 deduction per dependent which doesn't lower your net profit like write offs do, rather only lowers the amount of tax in which you need to pay.

So if I made 100k net profit with zero dependents at a federal tax rate of 25% I would be paying $25,000 in tax.. BUT if I had 3 dependents, even though I claimed 100k net income, I would only be responsible for paying tax on $91,000. (if $3k per dependent is accurate)

Im not even 100% that's how it works, that's how little I know, but if it is, are there any other deductions in which I can keep my net income at a high number, but pay a discounted number in tax?

Any and all help is appreciated.

how to claim for networking events which also have training elements?

So there's an animation expo coming up that I'd like to figure out how to best claim on against my taxes.

I gather that networking events can be deducted but only at 50%

But I'm trying to really nail down what kind of expense this is because the event also has seminars and training (which can be 100% deductible, right?) and I think they're all part of the main entry fee so couldn't be singled out separately.

Splitting business fairly

Good morning. I own a mobile makeup and hair company with a partner. We are on our second year and are getting quite busy. Right now, I am in charge of checking and responding to any Facebook requests from clients and she is in charge of all email requests. I am finding that it more people book through email and we want to make it fair.

How can we go about checking our FB messages and Emails and make it fair for the both of us? We need some kind of system but not sure what.

Thanks!

Business Attorney?

Hello my fellow humans who use this forum (assuming aliens aren't using this website as a tool to learn about how human interact with each other).

Recently, I have been getting ready to apply for college. I'm waiting for my second SAT scores to come in, then I will apply for college. There's just one itsy little issue: I'm having second thoughts on my major. Recently, I met an attorney at my Staples job. After a lot of talking, it kind of got me thinking: what if I went to law school after college? I know for a fact if I decided to be an attorney, I would go for business law. I would love to represent companies. Plus I love arguing with people ;)

I was originally going to go for finance, but if I want to do business litigation / law what should I go for? Should I just go for a business degree and take some pre-law classes? Should I try getting an internship before college?

AFA Rant

I feel a bit like venting so I will use this post to vent a bit. We are at our renewal time for health insurance. I was under the impression that the past year was the last one we had before being required to be AFA compliant but I guess we have one more year. Last year we had to quit covering families and go to a much worse program to be able to afford coverage at all. This year we just got word that if we want to keep the same coverage our rates would go up 30%. By cutting back from a $ 500.00 deductible to a $ 1000.00 we are able to just have a 3% increase so that is what we are doing.

I am told that to have the same coverage with an AFA compliant program our rates will about double. Our choice for next year may be to go to really crappy coverage and I hate to do that.

I am curious if anyone else is running into this and how you are dealing with it?

Hello everyone!

Hi,

I'm new to the forum but not new to the world of business. I have been in business management for a very long time in my career, and have operated my own business. I went to business school so I utilize both my education and experience in the world of business. I am currently running operations for a small business with several retail locations.

Thanks for having me here!

Advice on starting a soap/perfume business

Hello everybody,

My friend and I are thinking about starting our own soap/liquid soap/ eau de cologne/ bath bombs/ business. And we're stuck on some stuff so we need advice please

1- Is it better to start with just one product or all of the products listed above ?
2- Since it's a small buisness, manual machines (Bath bombs compressors, eau de cologne filling machines...) are a more convenient idea or should we go for the automatic ones and aim for the long run ?
3- Bath bombs are non existente where we live and it will be a premium product, should it get more focus ?
4- Any advice about on how to make the products (especially soap and liquid soap) more appealing without much expenses ?
5- Any ideas on the price and sellers of a whole chain of production ? (Soap, liquid soap, perfumed candles...)

Thank you !

Ebay...... How Do People Do It?

I don't understand how one can successfully sell on ebay. Well, I get the basic premise of it, as I have tried it before. However, the issue I struggled with is being able to find the right sources for the product. I was able to find the sources for products sometimes, but a lot of the time I was unable to find a source cheap enough to make the whole thing profitable at my end. Frankly, I just don't see how this aspect works. I was able to sell the products, I just wasn't able to find the right source for them to make it profitable. Sorry I am very new to being self employed. I know this is probably a dumb question but I simply am very new to this whole thing.

Advertising For Other Businesses Online

I had the idea that I could use mail chimp or other emailing software to write and send out adverts for other people's businesses. I would market myself to those that are just getting started with their business ideas. I was thinking I would write and send out the adverts for a fee of something in the ballpark of 40-50 dollars, depending on the nature of the ad. In addition, I would be able to write product descriptions along with the advertisements, if that is needed. The 40-50 dollars would cover an advertisement and a product description I was thinking. After that, each product description would be 10-20 if it is reasonably short. If it is something complex that would require a large volume of content (this would apply to the ads too) I was thinking to charge a higher rate that would be on a case by case basis. As I learn more about SEO, I could also offer to set up a website for a fee that would be determined on a case by case basis. Rather than using the services of content mills, I would write the advertisements myself. I already am quite experienced and skilled as a writer, and I have already been writing a lot of well done advertisements for an advertising agency. Does this seem like a plan that could work.

I would advertise my services by creating email advertisements via mail chimp and/or constant contact. Additionally, I would create a website for my services, and people would be able to contact me via email or telephone from the site. The only information I would not give would be my address for snail mail (as this would be my residence and I would not feel comfortable with the idea of giving that out online). I would ensure that the page was 1-3% keywords, and I would post a significant amount of links various places (e.g. forums, comment sections, etc.) I would also use a meta description and other SEO strategies as I learn them. Ideally, the website would get a lot of traffic. However, I also would use email advertising and possibly also Google banner Ads and/or Google AdWords to advertise my page.

Does this sound like a workable plan, and if so, do you have any tips for me getting started with this business. Obviously, I am sure there are other people out there doing this and I'm not the only one. Given this, do you have any ideas of how someone would successfully compete against other advertisers.

Advice for a web application case study

Hi friends,

My company is getting ready to launch a beta trial of our first product -- an asset reservation management web application -- in a local school. During this trial, which will be our first time ever allowing a third party to test our application, we would like to collect plenty of feedback and statistics. This is also my first time personally doing something of the sort, and I would appreciate any tips or advice that anyone could give me; things to watch out for, things to not forget in our study, etc.

The intentions of our study is to see how they use the application, where they have trouble, and what they need to operate efficiently while using our application.

Let me know if any more info would help and I'd be happy to share a bit. Also, mind the website, we are aware that it is not finished. :)

Thanks so much!

Need of Validation

Hey Everyone I appreciate you taking a minute!

I am in the later stages of launching a business and struggling to identify our product to our consumers. The premise is that we are a B2B company that evaluates attractions such as restaurants, hotels, theme parks, etc.. on the different aspects of what makes up a great guest experience. Our rubric is a point system in which we grade on things such as layout organization and employee approachability if a specific attraction reaches a certain mark they are then deemed so and may market themselves as having our certification of excellence. In going through the evaluation the attraction is also given any data we collect on areas in which they can improve and in turn implement some of these ideas. Our problem is educating our target market which is obviously attractions owners and managers about our evaluations and the benefits that they provide. We have reached out to Multiple attractions in a specific region and had minimal success. I'm here to build relationships with all of you guys in this forum and would love to hear what any of you think about our companies direction. Your advice is much appreciated!

Looking for a simple webinar platform. Can you help?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a simple webinar platform that will allow prospects to easily sign up to view a pre-recorded webinar or a video.

The client base are older people in their 50's up to 60's.

I don't want them to have to download any software or click through too many pages.

Thank you for your recommendations!

Target Market Avatar Profile

I'm working on a book about avatar profiles for target markets. You know, a description of that idealized person who represents your target market.

I've gotten a lot of advice, but no concrete examples. If you've written up an avatar profile and successfully used it, I'd like to hear from you. Specifically, I'd like to see your profile and hear about how you went about using it. If you could either reply here and send me a PM by Friday October 14th, I'd really appreciate it.

Very best,

Google Pixel Event

Did anyone watch the Google event today? They announced their new phones, Google Home, a new VR headset, 4k Chromecast and some other improvements to Google Assistant, Now and it's overall AI and cloud services for consumers.

Personally I've been waiting for Google home since they spoke about it at Google I/O, and of course I want the new phone since I'm about due and want to switch my personal line to Google Fi.

Anyone else care?

Dream Apps

I've always wanted an app I can input things I need (light bulbs, string, bananas, a 3/8 inch 9/16ths deep socket). Then when I walk into a store, my phone rings and automatically brings up the list. I always figured the way it would ring would be somehow tied in with the shoplifter things you walk by when you enter or exit the store.

Since I am a small business, it is important for me to know when a freight truck will stop by. I wish there were an app that would alert me that my business was going to receive a truck. Or website I could visit where I could input my company name, and it would tell if I was going to have a freight truck come by. To know the day they are going to come would be great and to have a window of arrival would be even greater.

Manor House - How to make a business from it???

Hello Guys

My fiance owns a hotel in Scotland which has been vacant for several years. We plan to start hiring out some of the bedrooms in the courtyard area to local contractors to start with and also want to make use of the restaurant as well as function room facilities. Basically, there are 27 bedrooms total all with separate bathrooms, no cooking facilities exists outside the main kitchen which is to an industrial standard with all the mod cons. The courtyard is closed off the the main house (hotel) so letting these would give us space from any guess at the start before we get stuck into things more.... There are 9 rooms in the courtyard and a further 18 bedrooms in the house, a large restaurant area, a reception room with bar (My partner already has an alcohol serving license, but we might need one for the hotel if we go down this road?) and a function room with space for over 100 people with all the necessary furniture and crockery. There is also a bar in this area that has a large serving hatch which can be locked. There isn't much in the way of grounds available but a small garden area (0.5 acre) to the front and a lovely bandstand at the side of the function room. Parking can be made available.

Hosting weddings seems like it could be a real minefield with lots of high expectations and demands for you as a venue in general what with catering and hiring lots of people. At first, but we may evolve the plan after a few months or year after gaining some insight, is to rent out the function room and or restaurant to local groups requiring a venue in order to host their event. This could be anything at all even a book club meeting etc. So if small events are hosted at our place we would provide refreshments ideally in the way of tea/sandwiches etc that can be achieved without needing to hire people and can be done ourselves, maybe music but that would need licensing, food I guess needs licensing, do you pay annually, who should I start to contact etc etc? What insurance do we need for renting rooms on a semi-permanent basis (for approx 3 months) and is insurance also required for general guests entering the hotel?

These seem like small steps I'd be comfortable with before perhaps looking into running the hotel properly or hosting big events with catering.

Love to know what you guys think and if there are any ideas you have or can run by me that would be great. I quit my job last month and am willing to give this opportunity my full attention. FYI, I owned in the past an eBay + Amazon business turning over £200,000/year and can handle accounts responsibilities for the hotel, it's just dealing with licensing and the people plus developing ideas I find a bit daunting. The building is completely owned so there's no mortgage to pay if that helps build a better picture but running fees are already looking pretty steep and we need to start making things work in the near future.

Thank you very much in advance for your help
Regards
Nick

Function room Hire - Licensing & Legal aspect

Good afternoon everyone and thank you in advance for reading/helping me with this :)

My fiance owns a hotel in Scotland which has been vacant for several years. We plan to start hiring out some of the bedroom rooms in the courtyard area to local contractors to start with and also want to make use of the restaurant as well as function room facilities.

Hosting weddings seems like it could be a real minefield with lots of high expectations and demands for you as a venue in general what with catering and hiring lots of people. This could be anything at all even a book club meeting etc... What I would like to know is what I need to do from a legal standpoint to make sure everything is above board before I start to market and offer the facilities we have? So if small events are hosted at our place we would provide refreshments ideally in the way of tea/sandwiches etc that can be achieved without needing to hire people and can be done ourselves.

These seem like small steps I'd be comfortable with before perhaps looking into running the hotel properly or hosting big events with catering.

Love to know what you guys think and look forward to any criticism or advise.
Thanks again

VAT returns

Hi,

I'm about to start renovating a house for my mum in France but I'm going to be buying a lot of materials in the UK as they are of better quality etc. I'm needing some advice on a plan I have to claim VAT back in the UK.

My plan was to set up a building company, as a sole trader, register for VAT and have my mum transfer me £10,000 which I would then use to buy materials. When it came to my VAT return I could claim the VAT back against zero sales.

Is this legal? If not, is there a way to do something similar that is?

Thanks in advance!

James

"SEO and Social Media – Friends or Strangers?"

What do you think about this article: "SEO and Social Media – Friends or Strangers?"

Do you think that Social Media contributes to better SEO?
In my opinion it helps a lot, but in not so direct way. Profile in social media won't help you to get higher rank on Google but it will help you to build your reputation, which in fact is an important part of SEO services.
The article was edited by me and you will help me a lot if you share your opinion here.

Fair Market Value of old merchandise

I am restarting an old eBay business after 12 years away. I was a powerseller for many years, but never officially ended the business with the IRS - my dad got sick and in taking care of him, I sold less and less. Then my husband took a corporate job, and I just never got back to it.

I have a lot of old merchandise from this business. It's beads, so they were small and easy to cart around with me. To complicate matters, my mom used to sell beads too, and when she stopped running her business (also over 10 years ago), she sold me her remaining stock. Over the years, I've considered making jewelry and in organizing to do so, have re-sorted all these beads several different ways to where now everything is just all mixed together. Some of these beads were contemporary at the time and are likely worth less than 12 years ago. Others were vintage and are likely worth more. Many of the beads are handmade. I have absolutely no idea of total value.

Basically, what this comes down to is that I have a bunch of stuff to sell with no idea of what the basis is. I intend to sell the stuff I don't like on eBay - listing cheaply and if they are worth more, assuming people will bid against each other - and to make jewelry with the rest and sell it on Etsy. Problem is determining fair market value. For most of the items, the only way of finding out how much they are worth is to sell them and see what people will give me for them. IRS docs seem to say the basis is $0 unless you can document how much they are worth. But my document would have to be the receipt for what I sell them for. If I sell a lot of beads for $50, I'm very unsure whether my basis is $0 (which seems unfair, since they do have value and I did purchase them with the intent of selling them) since I can't prove the value prior to selling, or $50 because that's obviously the value since they just sold for that much (which also seems unfair ONLY if I am selling them for more than I bought them for, but I can't know that). I don't want to pay too much and am not trying to dodge the taxes. I just want to do it right.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance. :)

How to Clean Windows & Mirrors.

Hello Everyone!

Am here to provide tips on cleaning. Today my first tip is going to be live now. Check below

Clean windows and mirrors like a professional with a microfiber cloth and a few simple steps. You’ll be seeing things a lot more clearly!

Things You'll Need

Microfiber Cloth
Water

How To Do It

Use a dry microfiber cloth to clean the mirror using horizontal strokes across the top, then in vertical strokes.
If spots are still stubborn, try dampening a corner of the cloth before attempting to clean the mirrors again.
