Need advice on how to promote kickstarter campaign on social media.

Hi,

I have a product that I need start up capital and I am new to kickstarter and mass promotion on social media. I have my kickstarter page almost ready to go live in about a week or two but I know I need to promote my product BEFORE launching the kickstarter campaign. I have read that its a waist of time if you don't have followers already WAITING to back the project BEFORE lunching the campaign. So how would I promote my product without SPAMING or just simply copying and pasting to a bunch of Facebook groups and potentially getting banned for posting so much? What does a kickstarter promotion post look like? How would I even present it? Thanks.

Creating a DBA with my LLC?

State : Ohio

I have an LLC with the state of Ohio and have a business checking account under my LLC name. Lets call it "Matts Business LLC".

I can create a DBA under my "Matts Business LLC" correct? It will be the same articles of organization with 2 optional business names?

Examples to what I'm looking to accomplish :

Currently clients are cutting checks to "Matts Business LLC"

I have a little niche scope of work that I'm doing for other clients and want to use a different name for this work without creating another LLC. Lets call this DBA "Matts Control Panels" So from what I read, I'm pretty sure I can create a DBA for my LLC. I understand it doesn't give the two names aren't two separate entities, they are basically the same company.

Will my bank, JP Morgan Chase Bank, let me deposit checks into my "Matts Business LLC" checking account if some checks are wrote out to "Matts Control Panels" and others are wrote out to "Matts Business LLC"? If thats common, what do paperwork does the bank require from me?

I have an idea for a business but i don't want to tell everybody

I will apologize right now if i have wastes your time or have broken any rules.

I have an idea that has to do with gambeling and Sports, but i don't want share with everybody (sorry) because i feel that the idea has alot of potential internationaly and could be a potential game changer.
However i would like to talk about this idea with other people on the condition that they don't run off with the idea so they can use for there own benefit.

If u do want to talk about it with me, send me a private message.

Small biz loan - payback via credit card?

Good afternoon everyone!

Curious -- I came across a site promoting small business funding. Specifically, loans that get paid back a little each time I run a customers credit card.

Does anyone know if these are worthwhile?

Thanks!

Missed S corp election deadline

I am currently a sole propietor and I believe an s-corp would save me a fair amount of tax. The question is is there any way to still elect to be taxed as an S-corp for 2016? I know there is a process for late election, but the question is am I a qualifying entity? I have an EIN but am not an LLC or anything official.

Easiest for me seems to be an LLC taxed as an S-corp, but wondering if that is still possible to achieve for 2016?

Has Anyone Here Made A Template For Themeforest?

I have a web hosting template I'm working on. It's a small template, it was actually an existing website I made and did nothing with it. I'm editing it as of right now, organizing things, etc. along with adding elements. I want to sell it on Themeforest. My question is: what do you guys think?

URL: Rentals, Leasing, and B2B In One Place | Freefall

Secondly, has anyone ever sold on TF? Do you think this would make it when I clean up the code / add elements?

Just another new guy

Good afternoon small business friends!

I'll let my introduction be fairly simple. I'm based in the Houston, TX market, but have clients all over the US and Canada. I've been doing small business coaching and consulting for around 10 years, with doing it full time here over the last few years. I also do loan brokering!

I put a strong emphasis on everyone having a business coach, even if it isn't me! Even I have one! A business coach is great to have, especially to meet with monthly/quarterly after your plan is set in stone, if for nothing more than an accountability factor. I've driven company revenues up by 100-400% in a year and a half, simply from holding ownership accountable to actions!

Essentially, I work as a contract COO. I write lots of business plans, strategic growth plans, and I'm the guy you can call and speak with for a couple hours when you just need to sanity check a couple ideas you've got with making your company more profitable!

I hope to meet many of you and watch all of your businesses grow past your expectations!

Charge for time an account is suspended

Given a situation where a client falls behind in paying for a monthly service, and their account is suspended for an entire month, is it customary to charge the client for that suspended month, or just pick up service once they pay what was due up to that point plus any late fees?

Advise on Small Hostel Business in Myanmar

Hi,

I need some advise about the plan I'm going to do. I would like to rent small private rooms in my apartment in Myanmar, Yangon. My apartment is at 5th floor and just about 15 or 20 mins drive to downtown area. Walking distance to night market and one of the tourist attractions areas. So of course traveler got to use stair to go 5th floor. However, I will provide airconditioned, bedframe, and moderate facilities for my visitors. What i'm afraid is that visitors will be ok to go 5thfloor using staircase? The price range i'm thinking is about 10USD to 20USD per pax per night.

B2B marketing for transport & logistics industry - where to start?

Hi All,

Newbie here. My husband and I recently started a road transport & logistic business and are keen to expand to provide our service to manufacturing businesses.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on marketing ideas for B2B. Do you think the social media platform is suitable for the transport & logistic industry as we are targeting well established and large companies.

I was thinking of email marketing or sending our info packs.

You're thoughts & ideas will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Need help finding good articles on SEO

Would appreciate any help. Looking for articles that have a lot of research and depth to them, something along the lines of this http://ift.tt/1pWjk2P.

Any and all ideas would be appreciated, just wanting to get a good overview of info that's out there.

Teaching difficult concepts

After my employee made a mistake today (caught early enough that I could correct it without hours of rework), I got to thinking "what's the best way to train/teach a difficult concept". Normally I use over exaggerated examples to show how to do the work properly, while asking why, or what the result might be, the outcome is the way it is.

Due to there being more than one way to skin a cat, I figured that maybe there are better methods to teach. Anyone got some more teaching methods?

Company Name

Hello, my name is Jackson Pugliese, and I currently own a LLC. We own the LLC, and everything is filed for it since about November. Just a few days ago, I searched Google for my company, to see how our seo was going, and saw another company of the same name. I then went to their website, and they are a Canadian company specializing in the electric motor cycle market. We are an american company based in the quick charge external battery pack market.

They have apparently been founded since 2010, but did not have good exposure, so I was not able to find them.

We will be selling our product online, so we will not only be shipping our products to america, but shipping them all over the world, including Canada. So what I was wondering, is how will this work, are their any legal ramifications, can I legally ship things to Canada, since we have the same name? Could I get sued, or hurt because we have the same name?

Any help will be much appreciated,

Thanks,
Jackson Pugliese

splitting profit between investors

I have been in fashion business for about 6 years and I really want to expand my business and luckily I found an investor in my sister, but I don't know how the sharing formula will be in the long run of the business, I will be doing all the work from marketing, purchasing of the goods and the sells ,I will be fully in it because that's all I have and she will only be investing her fund of about the same amount that my business worth. So please what should be the right sharing formula of the profit.
Also I will be reinvesting my own profit back to the business as time goes on. Should the sharing formula be constant as time goes on or should it decline ?

Easy full time remote job (with side gigs) or high paying in house job no side gigs?

My username says it all. But I work long hours and produce results no matter where I'm at.

On linkedin I received a message from a successful entrepreneur in our same niche, one who knows my boss. They are part of the same community and are very tight knit. I called him after I received his message and nervously pitched my services but he already knew about my work and my boss, he knows our whole operation. Both of them almost did a deal in the past that did not go through. They are both wealthy millionaires who are up to date with Internet marketing in our niche (my specialty)

I've been with my boss for 7 years, who is very flexible with my schedule, kind, allows me to work from home on most days and allows me to leave early to beat the traffic. He's a great man. I do produce results. B The new offer said it was an IN HOUSE only position, no remote work. But due to my ADD, sitting for 8 hours is going to be hard for me when I'm so used to having my own schedule. Also it's 1.5 hours away from my house. Instead of coming home at 2pm, I will not come home at 7:30pm due to traffic. The rentals are too expensive in surrounding area.

He asked me to come by to check the office this week, it's a guarantee hire in my eyes. Over the phone he didnt ask how much I made. but did say he will easily offer me more if I work for him. I've been in this specialty niche that produces large results in his industry and have been doing it with my boss for 7 years. He started me at $25 and give me a 5 dollar raise 2 years ago. So I've been only making $30 a hour for 5 years, which is laughable for what I do. I have friend who works for Intel and develops and manages 2 new landing pages per year and is making over 100k.

I love my office and co-workers and awesome schedule. It allows me to do side projects, which I've been working on but planned to go full speed in the next few months. I always wanted to be my boss, and with 500 sites under my portfolio ranking in top 3 for all their keywords, I could easily become successful on my own. But I'm lazy and over worked.

The potential new employer asked me to keep this confidential, I imagine from anyone at work.

Do I tell my boss what I was offered before or after I meet? It can annoy him to assume I'm using a sneeky tactic for a raise but I'm sure he will match and raise but ask me to be in house and throw more work on my plate. But I would be breaking confidential verbal agreement and could cause friction. Why would one successful business owner snatch up a competitors main man in the same feild, sooner my boss of 7 years will find out. I can only imagine it will turn ugly and never have an opportunity to work with my current boss.

Do I keep the kush 30hr job (not far from home, able to spend more family time, able to enjoy the sun) or work at this new job with a better work ethic that could potential pay more 2-3x more. I meet with him this week. Nervous and need advice. I've been so much in my comfort zone, I've yet to reach my potential to become very successful myself. Maybe this is wake up call to keep kush job and go hard on my side projects. But 90% of friends and family tell me to go where the guaranteed money is at, the in-house job

How would you do this?

I have been here a while and I think this is the first time I have really asked for advice. So here goes.

I have about 8 websites for my business. I started off 15 years ago using FrontPage then switched to Dreamweaver and now am using Wordpress with one site under my belt and 3 more that I want to do. One of the main reasons is the change Google made almost a year ago. I am a month or two away from tacking what I consider my main site which is one I created with FrontPage a dozen or more years ago. I really am fine with the way it looks on a computer but it really looks horrible on a cell phone and it isn't responsive of course. Here is the part that makes me ask that question. When I redo the site I also want to change hosting companies (not sure which yet but that is not what I am asking about). The hosting company I use is just too expensive and when I called customer service last week for the first time in 5 years they didn't impress me and didn't seem to want to be bothered with my problem although they did give me the answer I needed.

So what I want to do is the make a new site (using Wordpress) and change hosting. I am just trying to figure out the best way of doing that. The site is probably 60-80 pages so it isn't going to be quick.

Option 1. Create the site in a subfolder on my existing site and then move the subfolder to the new hosting company. This is probably the option I am leaning toward before asking the question. One of my concerns is since I would be creating the site in a subfolder such as mysite . com/test if I moved it to the new hosting company in the root folder all my navigation would be messed up since it would all be pointing to files in the subfolder.

Option 2 I have other domain names I am not using. I could create the site in one of those domains and then move it to the proper domain. This seems to me it would make a mess and probably cause problems in the database as well as the problem I would deal with in Option 1 so at the moment this is my least favorite choice.

Option 3. Download wordpress, PHP, MySQL and whatever else I needed onto my computer and create the new site on my computer and then upload it to the new hosting company. This seems to me it could be my best option but may be beyond my limited talents (or limited experience and brain power)

Option 4. Actually I just thought about this one after typing this post. That would be to get the new hosting company first. Set up the data base and just keep repointing the domain back and forth when I wanted to work on the new site. This would be clean and easy but would have a lot of downtime on the main site right when I am in the peak of the season and getting lots of traffic.

So I would like to ask those who are a lot more experienced and smarter than I am how you would do it and which of those options would be my best choice and which are a total no-no. Of course if there is a better way I would be more than happy to hear it.

We Are Newbies Here

Greetings,

We’re the team of enthusiasts that is currently working on one online project. It is all about web design solutions including also SEO, logo, branding, coding and copywriting. We do admit that is not a unique startup and there are a bunch of well-known studios over there on the internet. Our challenge here is to eventually bring something unusual and untrivial to the customers. It doesn’t necessarily mean we gonna be doing a completely new web design that has never been revealed before. We not gonna change the product itself. I don’t think that is what the current market looks for (but who knows…). We gonna be adding absolutely new things to our services to make it more competitive. Sounds simple? It might be, yes. But have a look at today’s start ups. They all may be plain but if they have their own uniqueness and no competition in this area, that will definitely be a new ‘facebook’ or ‘instagram’ in the market. A couple of our members have an online business experience in fields like currency trading, MLM and e-marketing and the rest are professional designers. So we’ve decided to combine our knowledge and initial investments to come up with the design studio. Pretty much that’s it. We are sure that every business could be properly run with the competent management and hard work (that would definitely pay off). We’ve come to this forum for any advice and of course to share experiences. Hoping this gonna be a win-win solution to all of us.

Look forward to being in touch.

Chances of getting a loan with little collateral?

Hello

My partner and I have found an existing business, specifically a multi-unit food franchise that's consistently been ranked as one of the fastest growing (think Dunkin Donuts, Jimmy Johns, Subway) listed for sale at $1.6MM. There are 4 units total and each has a positive cash flow, with a total owner's net profit of $440k. There is also a general manager in each unit so the business is almost passive. We're currently doing our due diligence and will meet with an accountant and business attorney to determine the health of each unit. If we determine that the business is doing well, then we will purchase it with a 20 percent down payment (160k per person). And from there our main goal will be to improve sales and help the business grow as much as possible.

The loan amount will be $1,280,000, and will be spread out over 10 years. But the problem lies under how we will get the loan (we're interested in either SBA or conventional loans). I have very little assets to use as collateral; specifically, I have $100k equity in a real estate property, a net worth of $450k (this includes the $160k down payment), and my annual income from my full time job is $170k. My partner has $50k equity in real estate, a net worth of $250k (includes the $160k down payment), and makes $150k annually from his full time job.

What are our chances of acquiring the loan? Any advice on how to get the loan?

Thank you

3D Printing Business Partnership?

Hello all,

The business idea is not from me, but rather from a good friend of mine who is thinking of starting a 3D Printing business and has asked me to partner with him in return for equity. Basically, he would like to build 3d printers (yes, you can do that now, I have personally built 2 FULLY FUNCTIONAL printers) and sell them on the market. He would also offer to sell parts and other 3d printing services, similar to what Shapeway provides. He wants an online store which I will develop for him and as well as a "small" investment money to help him get off the ground. I don't know much about business in general (yet), but I do know 3D printing and have been doing it now for a few years as a hobby. Mainly, I just print simple things like small toy objects for my daughter or whatever objects I find interesting on thingiverse.com. He (friend) however, is more business savvy and more comfortable on the ins and outs of running a business.

My concern is that in my opinion, 3D printing is a very tight competitive market. I think this is because the technology has not reached the stage of "commercialization" (I think that's the best word to describe it.... ;)) and maturity yet. In other words, I don't think that the 3D printers available in the market today are really targeted for the general consumers. It is primarily targeted for nerds (like myself lololol ;)) and other businesses who would or may have a use for such a device (jewelry makers, product development and prototypes, etc). Although the 3d printing technology (FDM) has been around since the mid 1980’s, I just don’t see it as a common household item yet, like our common and traditional inkjet/laser 2D printers.

Most 3D printers require a lot of technical knowledge to operate and maintain (3D modeling and design, beyond basic circuitry knowledge, software, etc). Yes, there are printers out there already hitting the market being labeled as "user-friendly". These printers can run and print your object by simply uploading your 3d model, feed it some filament and press a single button and walk away entirely. The problem with these however, is that when they break and the warranty has expired. Often, the users would have to literally figure out how to take them apart and buy the correct parts for replacement. Not to mention how much these "user-friendly" printers cost, many of which are priced from $1,500 and up.

So overall, I’m not entirely sure if it’s a good idea at this point. However on the other hand, 2D printers were the exact same way few decades ago, and look at them now…. =) It has become a common house hold item, along with computers. I just don’t want to lose out on the opportunity, but at the same time, it seems a little risky for me…. =)

I’m hoping someone can shed some light in to this, preferably someone who is in the same position or something similar, or knows 3d printing in general. What would you do? Thanks for the time and input.

Romel

Service agreements help needed

I have a friend who just started a small home cleaning business and is having issues with customers following guidelines. The first thing that came to mind was drawing up a contract for all scheduled clients in order for them to follow guidelines. Does anyone know a good source to download such contracts? If so what would it be called?

Also I own a small lawn care company and would like to draw up a contract for regularly scheduled clients. So anyone help with one or both would be great. Thanks!

How to decide how to share equity between 2 people for a new startup?

My friend and I are planning to do an incorporation soon for a idea we have. It's not my idea to begin with (currently I'm just doing a prototype for that person for some money), but that person is a business person and won't be doing any coding overall. I am the only one that will be doing all the dev work and dev research (I may get some help later by paying money and not equity), plus some of the business things like presentations, forms, marketing. The idea involves making a web app, android app and iOS app eventually, and uses more complex things like AI and machine learning. I also consider myself valuable because I have connections/friends to lawyers and a VC if I need any mentoring.

Based on all these, some people I talked to pretty much say I should get more than 50% equity, since the devs will be putting in more work upfront at least in the beginning to make the product. But what are some good suggestions for how to split it. When the other person first suggested we work together and incorporate, they said 50/50, but now I think to be fair based on effort going to be put in it, it shouldn't be that.

Does anyone have experience with this sort of stuff?

Thanks

HTML In Signature?

I was wondering if specific people can get HTML signatures? I would love to be able to put my Freelancer hire button in my signature, but I obviously have to resort to a url because of the restrictions.

Idea taken by manufacturer?

One of my manufacturers I use make certain collectible items and I sell them. They also allow me and other competitors to come up with our own ideas for the collectibles and allow us to sell them exclusively at our stores so no one else can sell them but me. 2 years ago I created a concept which they drew up for me but I held off on doing it. Now 2 years later I see a competitor of mine selling this collectible I created. Note their version is slightly different than what I created but you can tell by their design they are selling it is my concept due to all the detail I originally put in. basically it is to coincidental to say they came up with all this detail the same way I did.

I contacted my manufacturer and asked why they gave my idea to another competitor and they denied they did but I have my concept artwork here and what they actually made and you see how similar they are. Is there any legal lawsuit there because this manufacturer yanks my chain a lot. I don't want to get into to all the other things they do but they are like used car salesman. I dont have my concept artwork copyrighted or anything but just checking my options as I am ticked!

Hello All!

Hello all,

My name is Romel and I am a Freelance Software Developer. I am a newbie here and I'm hoping to connect with other small business owners on the forum to gain knowledge, get advice and possibly even provide my services to those who may need custom software development. :) Currently, I am a one man-show in terms of software development (hence freelancing), but it is a goal of mine to eventually start a small software/web development company. I have only been on this forum for 2 days now and already have learned a lot about business in general, just by reading other people's posts and questions. Thank you all so very much and I sure hope to learn more, and hopefully contribute as well.

Has anyone any good experience with an online service setting up a C-Corp ?

Thx for any little hint !

Hello

Hi my name is oliverbaker i am newbie here.

How to start a US subsidiary of a small french e-commerce business ?

I don’t know if that scenario is doable on a very small budget, and if it is, I don’t know what are the implications, how to create a subsidiary in the US, if I can do it as a sole proprietorship, where I will be taxed, what I’ll need to think about, etc.

(I want to sell on Amazon.com (US marketplace) while living in France and the only way to get liability insurance in that situation is to create a US company. I still need a french company to have a status in France).

I come here because the professionnals I contacted tell me to go ask someone else every time. It's pretty frustrating.

Thank to anyone willing to help.

Anyone ever use Rent-A-Coder or any like services?

I'm at the point in a project where I have to accept that I'm not going to learn how to code in a particular language anytime soon.
Need to find freelance coder to handle what should be a simple job ( I know, I hate when people say that too).

Anyone every use Rentacoder or anything like it? I have an apprehension to freelance sites for my own industry, so I have no idea what to expect.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Marketing for an online business?

Yes I have recently started an online business selling driftwood. I realize that's something really odd to sell. Checked out the competitors online and their prices are just out the roof. I know that i can sell it a a much cheaper price, and have an abundance of inventory of unique items. For those that are like why driftwood, it can be used in floral display, craft projects, yard/pool/home decor, art/sculpture, taxidermy, aquariums, reptile tanks and a lot more. But now i'm to the point i need to advertise and get some hits to the site. I was wondering if there are any pointers i could get from the generous people on this forum.

A few things I found out about self publishing

As the title says, I recently self published a book (1 of 3). I had visions of selling it all across the digital universe, but was surprised to find out a lot of things that others may be interested in:

First of all, Amazon rules the world. Kindle direct publishing isn't perfect but it's user friendly and makes it easy for you to self publish.
Amazon takes 35%, but you can get more if you join the Kindle Select ( I think that's what it's called) and only sell on Kindle.
Kindle apps are available on all platforms, and you can even order a book via your Echo and it will also read it to you, as do the Kindles.

Barnes and Noble not only discontinued the Nook, but they are also shuttering their digital publishing in a few months.

Google has stopped taking submissions to the Play book store because of rampant copy write infringement. People were literally just copying books that were already published, changing the cover and author and republishing them as their own. It's been down for almost a year, I'm assuming they're cleaning it up and will open it again soon.
Google Shutters Its Play Books Publisher Portal in Order to "Improve Its Content Management Capabilities" | The Digital Reader

Apple doesn't really want your business unless you already own an Apple computer. You have to own a Mac to even be allowed to publish to the book store, or you have to go through a partner company which charges an average of $300 to publish it for you.

So basically if you're looking to self publish, Amazon is pretty much ruler of the digital publishing world and your best friend.

Apple doesn't really want your business unless you already own Apple products. You have to own a Mac to even be allowed to publish to the book store, or you have to go through a partner company which charges an average of $300 to publish it for you.

So basically if you're looking to self publish, Amazon is pretty much ruler of the digital publishing world and your best friend.

351 Transfer, Depreciation and Carryover

I am getting ready to 351 transer assets into my C Corporation. I believe I will have Net Operating Loss for the first few years. I intend to straightline depreciate the assets as opposed to accelerated deprciation to realize the duductions later down the road.

I know that I can take carry forward my Section 179 deduction if not used so I will be taking all of those now.

My question comes to the NOL carryover. Would it make sense to go ahead and take the accelerated depreciation now so the carryover of the NOL would be available to me if I get profitable faster than expected?

In other words, if I depreciate as much as I can now, does the NOL carryover benefit me just as much as depreciating later.

If this is not clear, I apologize, please let me know.

Thank you sooooo much.

Excursion to production

Hello, everybody!

How can I get excursion on production or plant? It's possible?

So Someone Was Doing A Report On SBF In Class Today...

So I was in my business vocational class today and in a small project we had to create a slideshow about business-oriented websites. I personally did Entrepreneur.com and a couple others (sorry lol) but the girl next to me did a slideshow on this site. I took a picture.

I thought it was cool lol. I then showed her my account on here and she showed me her account on the .com version of this site. She isn't as cool as me and doesn't have as many posts tho

Should I Give away 20% Equity of my business?

Hi Everyone

I have been running a mens wholesale fashion company for over 5 years now. We are rapidly expanding and growing, and I have had 100% Ownership of my company. The bad news is because we are growing so rapidly, I now need assistance. I know the basics of math and business, and have a great accountant and lawyer but I need someone to really start focusing on saving every penny and cutting cost. Im great at making money but bad at managing it. I was looking for a CFO to assist with the growth.

We did $250,000 last year and this year we are doing about $600,000 in wholesale sales. We are predicting to hit at least 800 - 1Million next year and i am at a stage of my company where I don't want to give away a piece of my company but I have too because I cannot afford paying someone salary to be a CFO. Also the other issue is Funding , because we get so many new orders we don't have the finance to fund it so the two main criteria i am looking for in a partner is Access to funding + advisory or hands on CFO position. My credit is no good so i am unable to get a bank loan, and i have got business loans but they were at 3%/month which is to high.

We do have some loans on the table that need to be repaid so I need to be very careful on every decision that is made to make sure every penny counts in the next delivery of goods to retailers.

I have had different offers on the table and it is all just making me very confused at this point. I guess my question now is who do you think is the better bet?

Option 01
This company is incorporated and has been running a successful tea company and just inquired a cheesecake company and stated he doubled the new cheesecake companies revenues in less then 3 months. It is a partnership of 3 owners that share equity in the corporation and is stating that they are worth about 1.2Million dollars and want to take 18% of my business. They seem extremely intelligent but do not have any background in fashion, as I would only need them for the number side of the business. They also want to make there own shareholders agreement, so they seem very strict on it and I get a sense they could try to screw me over somehow because they are all about money which is good and bad.

The best loan they can get me ( example - 65K for 2% / Month ) - Which is very high.

Which also includes :

*No buy in ( because he said he is giving his resource )
*Internal Loan (2%)
*Accounting Infrastructure
*Warehouse Space Downtown ( Basement though )
*Moneris fee of 1.5% vs the 3% you're currently paying
*Collections Infrastructure in Canada
*Shipping Rates reduced in Toronto (24%-50%)
*Advisory

Option 02
This guy has been in the fashion industry for over 12 years and has experience in running a retail shop. His company evaluation is at 1.2 Million dollars he claims. He is one of our biggest buyers who orders about 30,000$ in Wholesale orders with us per season which is about 60K per season with us. Only thing is he has tons of network and is much older then everyone else and has been in the fashion retail game for along time. He is 39 years old and wants to move into a brand instead of a retail store. He has finances he says but not Millions of dollars, enough to pass by.

* Buy In 50,000$ For the evaluation of 300,000$ ( 20% Equity )
* Willing to put on contract that if he does not triple revenues by 2018 he will dissolve himself ( becuase he is confident )
* Advisory ( But he is not a numbers guys, he just understands the retail side and right now we need someone to handle our finances )
* He has some contacts with lawyers and is currently looking for a good accountant
* Very down to earth and seems honest and hungry
* He said he would open new distribution channels in Europe & US by 2017 - 2018 or he will dissolve himself.
* Along with other small perks.
* He can get a decent bank loan at about 10% A year.

Option 03
This guy is a CPA graduate, and is about 27 years old, same age as me and is sick of working for companies. He is very smart and intelligent but does not have hands on experience with running his own business. He has about 500,000$ in his Investment account which he had showed me and he originally wanted 44% of the business and we negotiated down to 20% of the business. He said he has amazing credit and his dad is a lawyer and his dad has many connections to bank loans , he stated if he cant get a bank loan he will put down his own money at a low interest rate of 6% year or so. He claims he will put all his time into the business side and become CFO.

* Buy In ( Not sure amount yet )
* Wants to work in the business and grow it from scratch at 20%
* Has funding and money and connection.
* Very smart guy and understands numbers and financing.
* Has no experience in fashion or retail
* Has managed million dollar clients at his workplace.

Let me know who you guys would go with, as im having such a hard time at the moment and I do need to make a decision because, at the end of the day, my business will fall apart if I dont have a good CFO guy and someone to assist with FUNDING the upcoming Purchase Orders that retailers placed.

Honey Importing

Hello, I'm Kris. First time poster, so if this belongs anywhere else then I'm sorry. I would like to make a business of importing honey. I have a european supplier, but right now I'm just starting to gather information on regulations. I was hoping somebody around this forum with some experience in this area would be willing to share any information or advice that may be helpful. Right now I'm specifically looking for information regarding regulations, mainly on the suppliers side, but also what will be required on my side here in the states. I'm just trying to see if this idea is close to viable. Thanks in advance for any information.

Duties of a Corporation ?

Creating a C-Corp is easy and one thing to do.

But once created, running the Corporation is another thing !
That being said, here is my question:

- What are the duties of a C-Corp ?

In terms of
- book keeping
- taxes
- license
- meetings
- etc.

I was not able to find any clear documentation about that chapter.
Any little help is highly appreciated.

Thank you so much !

How much should I be paying my writers?

I hire writers/freelancers on a fairly regular basis and I am wondering what I should be paying them? What is fair compensation for a quality writer?

Some articles are very technical while others require only a little bit of research. I usually pay per word and give a range of how long the article should be.

Hellooooo

Im new here, and I'm interested in learning information! Who knows maybe this forum will help me start my own business

Bachelors In Finance vs. Bachelors In Business?

I am looking for a good college. I am probably going to go to the University of Maine in Orono which is roughly 3 hours away from where I live. Plus it's in state college so it's cheaper, roughly being $25,000 a year to attend.

Anyways since UMO has the best business program in the state of Maine I was wondering what I should go for? I love finance and everything to do with it. The numbers, the charts, people looking at me like I'm crazy when I talk about it, it's great. My issue is if I go for just straight business administration what are my limitations? I already have a job lined up at a bank, most likely starting either this summer or when I turn 18. I want to work in stocks and securities mainly and become an investor and venture capitalist. My issue is would you recommend a finance degree or a BA?

My GPA is about 3.4 right now so Harvard is out of question xD

Questions about starting a Sole Proprietorship

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out all the necessary steps to start a sole proprietorship in Chandler Arizona. I've recently been contacted for hire work as a 3D modeler for a game publisher. I will be the only employee and plan to use my SSN for my tax id and using my legal name for the business name. I will also be working out of my parents house for the moment.

Basically my main concern is what paperwork I need to file? I read that I don't even need to file paperwork to become a sole proprietorship in Arizona so I'm guessing it then comes down to tax information. Is there any licenses I need as well? Also when I fill out my tax forms I'm not sure how I should go about paying my taxes based on when I get payed. I'm new to all of this.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide me!

Which deductions (if any) before tax?

I run a small sole trader business but the step from decorating to trading in goods online has added a few extra confusions to my tax return. I'll try put a basic idea below of where I'm just not 100% and hopefully somebody can help me out?

-------------------------------
Example:
Good Sold:
Item 1 - £5.74 (including 74p P&P)
[Gross Income - £5.74]

Cost Of Good Sold:
Item 1 - £1.00
[Gross Profit - £4.74]

Expenses:
Ebay Fees - 50p
PayPal Fees - 50p
Packaging - 20p
Postage - 74p
[Total Expenses - £1.94]

Net Profit - £2.80

--------------------------------------

Now can anybody explain which part is taxed. Am I paying tax on total income (despite item cost and P&P being included in that?) Am I supposed to add the P&P to the Goods Cost section and then pay tax on what remains there? Or is the Net the taxable part after all my business expenses that went into the sale are deducted?

Really sorry for bothering people but it's a bit of a step from just taking 20% of my earnings as a decorator haha.

Couriers who protect businesses?

I'm hoping somebody has some experience in this field, but I run an online business that relies heavily on the use of Royal Mail for cheap, easy access postage. However after taking my hobby trading into a full scale business, I got a shock to find Royal Mail no longer cover my losses after they lose my packages?

(Example:
I sell to Mr. A for £250, I pay Royal Mail and purchase ehanced compensation and tracking to protect me, Royal Mail still lose the package, PayPal force a FULL refund including postage costs, Royal Mail only refund me the COST price of my item £50 (less the VAT) This means I can not even purchase a replacement AND lose £200+.)

Previously as a standard customer, they would refund the entire SALE price and the P&P, so I had complete protection other than the amount I paid in fees. I quite frankly shocked that priority services, enhanced compensations etc all mean absolutely nothing and are a waste of money.

Does anybody know of a courier that'll actually protect me against their own fault, rather than punish me financially for their own failures like Royal Mail?

Parntership split in new business

Hi guys,

So I am starting a new business which is a small take away, which will be launching soon. However I was just wondering how will I split the money.. A breakdown is below:

I have decided to open this take away, however I don't work in my town anymore and have appointed my brother to run the show (which he has accepted and is doing really well now with construction workers etc.). I am fully funding the project, sourcing materials etc etc, and he is just managing. I give me a brief every morning on what will happen for the day and he knows what to do.

When the take away opens, he will be there most of the time, managing and running the place and obviously I will be there too but no where near as often as him (maybe 3 months in total in the year).

I offered him a 15% share in the business with a salary too. However, I was trying to figure out, when do I give him the 15% (end of the year? every quarter?) and what does it come out of? I'd assume when he gets his 15%, I can also take 85% out for myself. But if this comes out of the profits, then there is no cash left in the business, or do I then leave cash in the bank (lets say 50%) and the remaining treat it as profit?

I know this is really stupid, but I'd appreciate help here and explain how I can go about this.

Many thanks guys!

Could you please fill out my questionnaire about Job interview first impressions?

Hello,
My name is Melinda. I am a 24 years old university student.
Could you please fill out my master thesis questionnaire about first impression formation?
The practical part of my thesis deals with factors (appearance, clothing, behavior etc.) which play an important role when someone attends a job interview.
I would be grateful to get answer from people who make the final decision and hire the new employees, like business/company managers and owners.
The questionnaire is available here:

Anyone had any luck with SlideShare.net?

I'm testing out some different methods for traffic generation. I just made my first SlideShare.

From what I've read, this can be a very good way to get leads and traffic, but I've never personally tested it myself (until now, of course). Just wondering if anyone else has tried or had success?

My question is I am not in a position to go to the bank and carry a loan for my portion of the business, I am being told I would be able to purchase my portion of the business with being there for knowledge for day to day operations. My question is how can I go about making sure that I can protect myself in the event the money partner wants to sale or get out how can I protect my knowledge investment of the business. Please keep in mind I am not real up to par on the legality of business law or admin I have been out in the actual day to day operations of the business.

Bicycle Beer Delivery Service

Hi there,

I'm trying to start my own business, on the side of work initially but hopefully it could become full time. I'm thinking of offering a beer delivery service by bicycle. Here in Portland, OR there's tons of breweries and tons of beer consumers. Many like me have purchased growlers but I always forget to bring them with me to a bar to fill them up. I'm thinking a delivery service where I pick up people's growlers once a month, fill them with a beer from that months brewery and drop them off at their house, all by bicycle.

I'm going with the bicycle option because I have an incredibly small amount of money to invest (under $500). It also appeals to my, and the other Portland hipsters, environmental philosophies. Perhaps the bike would be a unique feature of my company that people would like.

There's a ton of questions I have about starting a company though.
- I live with my in laws, having just moved to America. Do I need to make myself an LLC before I pick up a single beer or can I test the theory before needing to register as a business?
- If I register as an LLC is it wise to use my home address at the start, or should I pay a business service to use their address (especially considering I don't own the property)?
- Does anyone have any advice on how to collect payment? I'm thinking at the start when I pick up the growler, the customer pays me. This way I could start the business without a website and just use a Facebook page.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

3YM

Greetings From AL

Hello guys my name is thablewprnt. I'm here seeking knowledge in the business world.

Just a little about me. I've always been a entrepreneur. I have a strong background in sales but I don't have a business education Whats so ever.

I won't bore you guys with details but out of the blue... I end up the owner of a home care business. Usually (i would think) that you learn business, create your business, then start doing business. In my case everything is backwards. I had clients and was doing well before I even had a business name. I now have 6 employees and I am just learning about payroll. This is all inside of a month. I am becoming overwhelmed and now starting to feel the effects of not having an education.

I hope to learn from fellow business professionals and hopefully make my business a success as it has started off on a very good foot.

Looking for all in one solutions

Hello guys. I operate a Home Care business. I'm looking for an affordable all in one company to build/design my website with social media intergration and seo.

On paper Yodel is exactly what I'm looking for but upon research I will not be choosing this company.

At the end of the day I want a simple and clean website that will bring me new clients. Would it be better to get a low cost website then hire a company to market it?

I've spent weeks on this and just keep going in circles. I need to get my website up as soon as possible as this is how most new clients are found in my line of business. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

i have a cnc machine, help me with product selling ideas.

I recently bought a cnc machine, a very good one, and i'm starting to get used to it and making different shapes and cool stuff out of it, I saw in a facebook group, some people that are making tons of money with their machines,so i said why not i make some profit too, i'm thinking about using ebay or etsy, but the thing is, what should i sell? i can make plenty of stuff with my cnc, but what do people buy the most? i don't wan't to lose resources or materials on objects that will stay in my garage while the dust eating them, i need ideas , please help.

Ideas to add onto current business

I have acquired an investor and have 60% ownership of the company. I have the funding, and nearly every aspect of the business figured out. We have a month or less until we open. My investor purchased the building. It is currently being remodeled, updated, and signage is going up. I am starting an electronics repair business. It will be a full-service repair store (we will fix cell phones, tablets, computers, TV's, game consoles, etc).

I have around 1100 Sq feet of usable space and only around half of that I need for the repair side. That includes area for buying, selling electronics and refurbishing devices. Also a wall-rack for accessories.

What other business/niche could I put into the store that would be interesting, in-demand, and profitable if incorporated in the right way. I have some ideas but nothing has really hit me like "wow that would be awesome".

Thanks!

Can one person incorporate more than once in Canada?

If a single person is part of multiple independent startups, and each one wants to do an incorporation, can that one person common to those
startups, have multiple incorporations? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Thanks

Should I take this opportunity?

The company I work for was bought recently by a larger competitor in a different city. Me and two colleagues were offered a job there and we accepted after being impressed by their appearance and efforts to convince us to come work for them.

Two months later, I'm not enjoying my new job as much as I had hoped. Even though the company is healthy, young and dynamic, the department I'm in is rather small and unimpressive. An important role also plays that I've always wanted to start my own business offering the same services, and as such I convince myself on a daily basis I could do things better and cheaper than my employer. I had similar feelings when I was with the old company, but insecurity about having enough clients kept me from making the leap.

My current situation however would genuinely allow me to take a bunch of clients and start serving them on my own. Unfortunately, this would mean abandoning my two colleagues, whom I'm really friendly with. I would also be taking clients from their portfolio, directly impacting their position at the company. The clients I have shared thoughts with so far were all interested in joining me to an extent and I'm confident an arrangement like this would lead to better results for them in the long run. I would also have to put in less than a third of the time to earn the same amount of money I do now.

At the same time, the thought of betraying my colleagues makes me feel awful right now. I know they would go through great lengths to make me happy to keep my position, as this would also be in their best interest. It would even be a fine opportunity for me if I decided to stay and fully dedicate myself to the company. The fact is, I'd have no objections to leave if my colleagues weren't involved.

Pros:
- Start a business like I always wanted
- Much better pay and growth potential
- More freedom

Cons:
- Risking a job with good pay at a very decent company with nice perspective
- Ending the relationship with my colleagues and potentially hurting them financially

It's clear I won't be happy as long as I'm in doubt about this and I should go with either option a 100%. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Conflict of Interest

What's the best way to handle this situation?

Through a series of acquisitions and mergers, a manufacturer of saw blades has now become the sole supplier for multiple machine types as well as a builder of one of the largest name, US designed, saw grinders that was independently owned. They are also the only distributor within Canada for circular saw blade production equipment

I knew that the buyout happened, yet I wasn't informed that the new company was a blade manufacturer. When I spoke with a service rep earlier this week I informed him of my intentions to start producing my own blades. I have to repeat that I did not know that they manufactured circular saw blades.

I had two of my primary machines (over $70K to replace new) breakdown on me this week and are, in their current condition, no better than paperweights. I cannot get a call back to get the replacement parts ordered and shipped out. After multiple calls and multiple messages I went around the normal people and got in touch with the service rep for the production equipment. I informed him of what is going on with regards to my equipment and that I need parts shipped out. I was told that I would get a call before today's shipping cutoff time. The call never came in.

This feels like they are blocking and refusing service because I have "announced" myself as a competitor to them (guess they wanted in the Ontario market).

Any advice or strategies that I can take short of calling a lawyer or a government regulating body?

Signature?

I was going to create a signature but it disappeared from my account?

Health insurance coverage--interview opportunity

Hello,

I am a new member of the forum, my name is Susan Rawlings. Nice to *meet* all of you.

I am writing a post on health insurance for small business owners, and people who do self-pay. I am looking for comments, or an opportunity to interview some of you here for a post on the Affordable Care Coach blog that I am writing, documenting the difficulties and issues people are encountering with the Affordable Health Care Act/Obamacare.

I would love to hear from anyone who'd like to share their story.

I look forward to learning more about your journeys, and sharing them with others to provide them with some help and assistance with navigating the health care system.

Thanks!

Any Android users using Google's Project Fi?

Google just opened up Fi to everyone and I'm pretty much gushing over it and plan on moving.

For those that haven't heard of it, Google Fi is mobile phone service from Google. It uses T-Mobile, Sprint Networks and works with wifi calling. That means it switches seamlessly between which ever is best based on your location and signal. Of course you have to have a Google Nexus phone.
http://ift.tt/1DdYav8

I'm already heavily into the Google infrastructure and use a crap load of products and services from them for both business and personal.

Cost wise it runs about $20 mo. for unlimited talk, text. And you pay for data as needed, which is about $10 per GB. Currently I use way under a GB of data a month. There's other extras like no charge to use phone as hot spot, rebates on data you don't use, no contracts, unlocked phones that work anywhere in the world and so on.

I love Android, but my main beefs with with how the system between device makers and service providers work are:

  • It takes too long to get an update. By the time the device maker and your carrier both put their crap ware on it, it's months later. And they are not getting any faster.
  • Too many phones get left behind and don't get updated. (I've been screwed by both Motorola and Samsung on this)
  • Phones cost too much to have bloatware (ads) forced on you. Why are they still installing apps that I don't want (and can't get rid of) on my $700 phone in 2016? I don't want my carrier suggesting apps. They suck at it. It's like having my Mom suggest music.
  • Feature phones are pretty much just adding more cosmetics. Functions other than camera are pretty much the same and I don't really care about camera. They're all good.
  • The cost of service and the nickle and diming is out of control.
  • The big 3 service providers are playing too many games with data, and speeds.
  • Contracts, locked phones, and charging you to take your number with you.

I've had mobile phones since the old bricks, moved on to the Motorola Star Tac, had Blackberries, Palms, you name it.
We never had many options before. Now we do and the phone companies now seem archaic in what they offer and how they operate.

A couple of months ago I purchased another Nexus 7 tablet ( because it's my favorite tablet of all time). This model was made in 2013. As soon as I pulled it out of the box and tuned it on, it started prompting me to update until it went all the way to the latest version of Android Marshmallow. No BS. No carrier crap between it. It just works.

This is how it should work for EVERYTHING! And this is the benefit of using Google's products. Stock Android. Stock Google. No bullsh*t.

So my mind is pretty much made up, and everything I've read about it says the service is great.

But I was wondering if anyone here was using it and what they thought.

Need advice on expansion

I currently run a small route retail operation in Minnesota, and I have the opportunity to purchase another route adjacent to mine as a long term veteran is retiring. I am struggling with the decision as it would put me 250k into debt again.

Here are some of the stats.

-employee would have limited supervision during the day.
-must sell 6k a week to cover expenses and pay the employee.
-employee would get base salary with bonus for anything over the 6k in sales for the week.
-I have been averaging 11k the last 3 years a week.

I dont have any employees right now besides myself (s corp). So I avoid State Unemployment, Dissability, and Workers Comp insurance (was quoted $250 a month).

The expansion would be fully paid for in 7 years which would save me $1200 a week in expenses.

My current business will be fully paid for in 5 years.

I am looking for some advice as to if it is a wise ROI to generate $500-1k a week in net profit off the 2nd route.

Hiii...friends how are you all doing...???

Hi friends..hope all are doing well and good...my self sruthi..new to this forum..I am intrested to know responsive website development Saudi Arabia companies...:):):)

Do I have to send photos of all my products for US Trademark filing?

I've paid someone to do a US trademark filing for me and they have told me that I have to submit photos of all of my products, to cover each of the descriptions I am listing on my registration. For example class/category 025 is for apparel. I want my trademark to cover all aspects of ladies clothing and footwear, so in my opinion I need to list the items of clothing and shoes specifically. However I'm being told that I can only list the items I'm currently selling and that I cannot file for products that I am not yet selling i.e. footwear, even if I plan on selling these items under my brand within the next 12 months. For me this doesn't make sense because the items are in the same class/category 025. Am I receiving the correct advice?

Planing to start my own C-Corp.

Can I also hire Interns or do I have to be already an established company?

C-Corp Progressive Tax Rates ?

I am not able to find a tax list, that shows me specifically the

Doing what the client wants, even when it wrong

I used to struggle with this. I thought I'd be like the chef at a fancy restaurant and refuse to let people put ketchup on my steaks. And then reality set in.
The way I figure it now, unless people are paying me for specific advice my job is to let them know when I see them going down the wrong path...once..and if they decide to still take it, shut up and get paid to do what they asked.

Does anyone else feel this way? Or are you emphatic with your clients when you know they're wasting their money until they understand?

Anyone thinking of Opening a Group Home? Or have on established already?

I'm planning on opening a group home this year and know the majority of what I need to know. But there is still so much to learn. I've already registered my business & had a property lined up but my offer turned into a counter offer. Long story short I still looking for a property :). That's not my problem tho.

Because these businesses can be so competitive, there is almost little to no info on how to get certified, zoning laws, and the list goes on. You'll most likely be coming out of pocket to get some info from a company that you may already most likely know. So for the last 6months I have been doing my homework. Learning, watching the market, weighing my options, and just figuring which type of group home I want to establish. I'm a nurse so I have experience with peds, geri, md, adolescents, & rehab. Im just ready to open my home already & help those in need.

Anyone thinking of starting their business? Or have a group home open already? I would love to connect & bounce ideas off of eachother & go over a checklist of what's needed to operate. <removed> I'm located in Colorado springs

Building Design Business - Good name?

Basically, im setting up an Architectural firm. What would be a great name for my company? To start with, im interested in foreign sounding names, like the famous firm, Atelier, or maybe some architectural jargon that architects often use to sound smart like, juxtaposition, fenestration, entablature. (or maybe not)

I visualize my services to be general, not just in service to homeowners, but also to commercial real estate, institutions, and even government projects.

Any suggestions?

Billing Issue

This is the first time I have had a billing issue with another business. A printing company approached us a while ago to do targeting mailers. We are a 3D ultrasound business, and we provide services to women in their 4th-7th month of pregnancy for the most part. We were hesitant because we knew our timeframe was so tight, but they told us they could get a list of pregnant women at certain times in their pregnancy. They were listed by month. So we went ahead and did a one-time mailing with her of about 700 pregnant moms in the area who were at least 3 months from their due dates. This was in November. We have had 4 phone calls from the whole mailing, all of which were people telling me they weren't pregnant and inquiring why they received the post card. One person actually thought her identity was stolen because it was her address but not her name. We got about 4 cards back that were unable to be delivered to the sender. Basically, I think the list was horribly inaccurate. The only feedback we got indicates this, and of course then, the mailers were a giant waste of money. I understand that a few returns and inaccurate addresses is something to be expected when doing a mass mailing, so had we also gotten any business from this or actual inquiries from pregnant women, I would just accept this as the nature of this kind of marketing. However, like I said, the only feedback was from people who were not pregnant, were not named on the mailer, or from returned cards.

So, how would you handle the billing situation with this business? It's another local, small business and I don't want to screw anyone over, but I really just think the list they purchased was not what we needed and they sold it to us as credible. I have been in contact with them, and they just keep repeating that they've used this company in the past with great results (but they have never used this specific list). They basically just don't believe me or are ignoring the fact that the list was likely bad. Would you suck it up and pay in full? This is the risk of advertising? Would you try to negotiate the bill down, and if so by how much? Bottom line, I would never had chosen to do a mailing with them if I had any doubt the list was bad because, with the nature of my business, a bad list would pretty much yield 0% ROI. And it did.

Proposing business expansion to current employer

I am currently employed at a small custom fabrication shop (custom furniture, architectural elements, signage, etc.). We are a very small group (3-5 employees).

I am interested in proposing a new "side-business" to my boss - the owner of the company. I'm interested in parlaying the success of this custom design business into another division that focuses on graphic design, web design, identity design, etc. My career background is in graphic design/web design, so I have the expertise in that area.

Rather than simply expanding his business into this area, I want to propose this as a joint-venture - where I will be part owner, rather than an employee.

Seeing that I'm looking build off the success and recognition he has built in the community - possibly even naming the new venture as a derivative of the current business - I'm hoping for any advise or anecdotal evidence of a similar situation in order to make further plans.

Thanks!

~ Online Business - Type of Business ~

I think this is a very important question to not only myself, but for our audience.

Starting an online business, assuming I'm in the "providing a service or special interest" to a client, What is your opinion regarding the following question?

What "type" of online business is the most financially lucrative business model to pursue? (Product/Service/Video/Photo/Blog/Writing?)

I know this is a very broad range and impossible to give an exact answer so be open-minded and just express yourself. (I sound like Madonna, but don't share her vocal talents)

Hello Everyone!

New to the forum - but lots to share

Hi everyone. Great to be here. I'm new to using forums to connect with other entrepreneurs, but I'm eager to help who I can and meet valuable influences.

I'm originally from Califorina, but have spent the last 10 years traveling the world and working location independently. I will be releasing my first book on identity, Brand Identity Breakthrough, on Amazon in May. My goals right now are increasing my authority and finding superior ways to get my message out to the right people.

Why do women dominate the online platforms?

Is it me, or does it seem like every other Pinterest ad seems to come from a woman who is either pushing her "cooking" videos, blog recipes or workout routines? I mean, do they actually make money doing this?

I think these are "hobbyist" people who have some other means of support (spouse?) and are just doing that for fun. (just read their profiles)

When you're trying to decide on your own business and you look at platforms like Pinterest, YouTube, Facebook, and the countless other things online it's very frustrating to know if even 1% of them are making a profit. I doubt it!

My point is I'm trying to not let the millions of stay-at-home hobby moms dictate my reasoning on a real business idea. Unfortunately, it's difficult to know because they seem to dominate social media.

If I see one more crock pot recipe or one more yoga pants "lose ten pounds in one week" video I'm gonna scream! lol

~ Legitimate Online Businesses ~

Hey folks!

I currently work for a private company full-time but have always wanted to own my own online business. The Internet never closes, open 24/7 and reaches practically everyone in the world. So, why not capitalize on that? The only problem is the Internet is saturated with people like me, who want to make money online.

I'm tired of the scams out there and the evil people who take advantage of others just to make a quick buck, then can't be found ever again. I am trying to get ideas for a legitimate business that I could enjoy, while at the same time benefiting my future clients without tricking them into something that's useless.

There's so much deception in this world it would be nice to offer something fresh, creative and beneficial to people for a change.

I know folks on here don't want to give away their "secret" idea and you don't have to. I'm just trying to get some ideas on what type of business seems to work in this day and age online. It's tough to sell things because of the giants out there like Amazon or eBay, who charge high fees to sell. I'm thinking something more along the lines of a type of service offered to people. Merchandise is hard, unless it's extremely unique I would think, although I'm no expert. That's why I'm here.

Your thoughts?

How should I start a clothing store

Hi all,
I m very glad to find this site!
I have been a fashion designer for over 10 years not counting the 4 years I took off to become a stay at home mom. After going back to the work force, I find myself have to start over.. Pretty much from the bottom, and I m not happy...
I m a very hard worker, I have the experience and passion for fashion,
So now I want to pursue my long time dream to open up my own clothing store.

I want to open up a retail store that sells women's wear ( targeting young women) with affordable, fashion forward casual career wear.

I have been looking at this area in New Jersey ( highland park) it's a small trendy town, with a lot of restaurants, fitness/ yoga, and a few niche shops, with about 5 clothing store, but nothing like the stuff I want to sell.

Now I just have a few questions since I really don't know much about the business end of opening a business ...
1. I have about &10,000 in saving , I know I need much more than that , I guess I will have to get a loan from a bank?
2. I called up one of the corner space for lease, he wants $3500 for 1950 S.Ft, I thought might be too big for my store, but he said it was negotiable .. How much Can I negotiate to?
3. I have been researching for wholesalers/ suppliers, but what's the best way to get a good supplier?

Eventually I want to sell my own designs.. But that will be after my store start making some profit, then I can use that money to launch my own line...

Any suggestion in how should I go about it?

Thank you so much for reading my long post,
Any feedback are welcome!

Writing off AR

Hello. I am not an accounting expert and am looking for what the standard practice is for writing off AR. We have several old AR entries for both AR credits and regular receivables that I would like to clear off our aging. The credits fall into a couple categories based on how our business software systems handles a given transaction:

1. Overpayment: We received a check for more than the value on the invoice. The system will leave the remaining deposit balance in AR as a credit.
2. Deposit on Account: Self explanatory. An entry is made in a liability account and the credit appears in AR.

Is it standard practice to write off both AR credits and regular receivables to "ALLOWANCE FOR BAD DEBTS" account?

Thank you.

Protect Cash from Frivolous Lawsuits

My question is how to protect my cash, not to obtain financing. I have more cash on hand then what's needed to run my business and fear it could all be wiped away by a frivolous lawsuit. Rather than put the cash in my personal account, where can I put it where it's protected from a frivolous lawsuit, but still easily obtained if needed for legit company business? Side note, I'm not being sued...I'm trying to be smart/ proactive. TY!!!

Deductions for product reviews? Have I found a loophole?

I own a number of websites and some of them do product reviews.

If I buy a product to do a review on I can deduct that correct? After I am done with the review what can I do with the product?

Can I sell the product to myself (from the corporation) or a friend for one dollar? If so can I do a review about every single product I buy, like a car or TV?

I would guess that this is illegal in some way but have not found any documentation.

Introduction of Myself

Hey,

I am from Tuscon and happy to join you all. Hope for long and happy association with you all.

How long until business starts making steady income?

I feel like I'm burning out. I'm constantly updating, blogging and social media-ing, but business hasn't taken off quite yet. The business began in late October. Since then I've only had a couple customers and currently have just one regular customer. Here's my site now (one word)..... ambers animal care [dot] com.

Maybe my expectations are wrong but does it depend on the type of business you're in or how much money you have to spend on advertising? I admit I am trying to draw traffic organically and spend as little money as possible on advertising.

Is there anything I'm doing wrong?

Good Moring!

Starting business in Real Estate

Hello, Im from the Philippines, Im currently studying to become a real estate developer - I understand its capital intensive. However, for my first investment, im planning on building a 4-door apartment building. I can have it built for a meager 150k and loan it from a bank.

I already have a contractor. I'm also aware of the local codes, pertinent taxes, market rental rates, etc, all that's missing is capital.
Im thinking of dividing the loan between two banks to lessen the length of time for evaluation.

Now the what if's:
-If however, profit does not meet the maturity date, can the contract include a clause that allows extension of dept period?
-in the worst case scenario, if the business does not yield as expected, can the building itself be the collateral and operate business as usual?

In your opinion, what is the likelihood this debt funding will be accepted by banks?

Thank you for giving the time to help!
