Hello from the beautiful NC mountains!

New here and wanted to introduce myself. I am a father of four and happily married. We have a blended family and my children range from 19 years old to 1 month old. I know! The latest was a beautiful and unexpected surprise, but I have no regrets at 42 myself. Anyway, I work for a fairly large site development company/heavy civil construction as a foreman. I am on the road all the time with a chance to go home for the weekend about every 2nd week. Not a way to raise a family... what's that old country song? "Pretty good living' but it ain't no life" So looking for ideas to get something going that I can do and be home every night.

Back before the housing crash, I had a successful lawn care/landscaping/earthwork business. My wife (at the time) now ex-wife panicked and wouldn't stop nagging until I sold out. I think now, looking back that I could have ridden it out and been in a strong position today, but I digress. I am pretty multi-faceted with my abilities as I started in school working the construction trades and heavy construction, but decided to go to work in a factory thinking it would give me more predictable work schedules, etc. So after about 12 years of that (and doing pretty good working my way up the ladder there, leaving as middle management in a production factory) I got back into heavy construction, including my time as a business owner as I mentioned before.

We have a unique situation here in our county's population as we are a haven for snow-birds. In other words every summer the population here probably more than doubles since many of the homes here are second homes owned by folks who live mainly in FL, but there are people from all up and down the east cost who have 2nd homes here. We also have a new casino opening this year (2015) that will draw more tourists, etc here. From the southern approach, we are on the route for people driving to The Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

I'm tentatively thinking about a couple of ideas to get me started as I don't have the liquid capital to get straight back into the grading business as I would like to, but thinking about something service oriented such as garbage pick-up service and maybe driveway repair (we have a lot of mountain driveways that are just dirt and gravel roads that wash when it rains).

I look forward to your advice and conversation!
