After a trip to my home country in Eastern Europe I discovered great cosmetics made with a plant that only grows there (like lotions, parfumes, soaps, etc.). I am considering starting a small LLC and import a small quantity to see how they sell. What is the next step I need to take??? I read on the CBP.gov that you don't really need a license to import under $2500 value. I want to sell primarily in local farmers markets and special events then if it sells to open a store, or try to put it in stores like Walgreens, CVS, Walmart. I talked to the local factory and they said they will be able to ship all products in bulk to the US. What is the next step? Anyone know how to find out import fees and paperwork needed in order to import - say - products worth of $1000? Thanks.

I am looking for your help
Hi, I am looking for help.
I am seeking people to interview who have or are starting their own businesses. I am interested in your opinions and insights into the struggles starting a business. In particular, I am seeking to understand what items/activities are the most difficult from a personal perspective and what are the market place hurdles. By market place, I mean things like legal and compliance issues, availability of assistance options, marketing or production challenges. I am not a business. This is a topic I am researching and I think the best way is to contact those who have “been in the trenches”.
<removed>
Thanks
Pearson
Ps I've never done this before and hope I am not violating any any etiquette rules.

Food Product Business, Approaching Woes
Hey guys,
I'm starting a food product business with the end goal being to get this product on store shelves across the country at various retailers. But since I'm just starting out my plan is to approach small local markets and sell them the product myself. My product is suited for Cafes, Bubble Tea Shops, Bakeries, etc. Any advice on how I should approach these businesses and sell them the product essentially. Do I email them (most don't really have contact info anywhere or don't even reply to emails), do I call them, do I just show up with product in hand, give them samples, chat with them a bit, leave a business card? Do I follow up? Is this a viable strategy to get myself in the market?
I'm not branding the product at the moment, this is meant to be a market feeler. If I can get 10-20 committed vendors I'd shift focus to branding the product and I would try and approach bigger retailers at that point in time. At least that's the plan as I've formulated it now, but I'd love to hear some opinions on the matter. I also plan on selling the product at events, fairs, and farmer's markets in the near future.
Cheers,
Mack

Advice needed: growing a new Social Media for Travellers
Hello all, I just started a new social media site for travellers to share their photos, videos and blog posts, etc.
The website is live now and I want to know how to get the travellers to try our site. Do I find the travel bloggers on the internet and send a personal invitation to them? But it seems very time consuming.

Who should Apple acquire?
Long time ago Apple said they were coming out with a TV. Ever since I heard that - I thought they should acquire Sony. Music, movies, a gaming system, and a quality made TV. They can sell off the parts they don't care about.
Yahoo? Make it a home page for people to get news and apple news?
Blackberry? I don't know how Blackberry is keeping their heads above water.

Google Analytics is now secure
Keeping with the recent trend, Google Analytics is now secure
The HTTPS encryption affects all traffic from supported browsers. To ensure security for our clients, there is no method by which you can opt out of HTTPS encryption of your traffic.
There is no implementation impact to site owners. No code changes are required. Google Analytics takes care of everything required to encrypt your traffic.

I have a product that is being made in china and another part of the product that will be printed here in the USA. How would I ship the complete product to a person if the product comes from two different locations? Also, does anyone have experience using a shipment fulfillment service for mass shipping of a product?

Public text messaging is a thing now
We're having a pretty spirited conversation about privacy in another thread. One of my statements was that many people freely give up detailed and personal information about themselves across social media every day.
And then this launched today. It's literally allows you to post what used to be personal text messages, publicly to the world.
I can certainly see some marketing or media applications for this. Quick interviews, people texting at events and so on.
And then of course many people will use it without thinking and will willingly expose personal or security info about themselves in real time.
Talkshow is texting in public.
People text amazing things.
Talkshow is a simple messaging app that allows you to text these things in public. With Talkshow, individuals, groups of friends, entertainers, creators anyone! can have conversations in public, to be viewed by others in real time or after the fact. Every Talkshow can be shared outside the app and embedded into other websites.

Blog Ranking Discrepancy Question
I have a question about why one of my pages is performing well but many similar pages are performing not so well.
One of my best performing blog posts for organic traffic is a job description for a front desk agent: The Perfect Hotel Front Desk Agent Job Description.
The page ranks 2nd for "front desk agent job description", which has a difficulty of 51. It also ranks well for a number of similar keyword combinations.
However, for the keywords "housekeeper job description", which has a difficulty of only 11, this page: The Perfect Housekeeper Job Description ranks 57th.
None of these pages have backlinks, but they are linked to from a definitive guide I wrote, which does have backlinks.
I created many of the original posts 5-6 months ago and I am in the process of updating the layouts, titles, meta descriptions and other things related to the on-page SEO and keyword targeting.
Any thoughts on why one page does well and the other is essentially invisible? Is the content too similar for Google? Too thin?

Choosing Not to Fight Chargebacks
Hello, everyone, I have a question for those of you experienced with chargebacks. Right now, I have a process for responding to chargebacks with a standard template of information that I put together and send over to our merchant account. It results in a pretty high win percentage, but takes a lot of time. For smaller transactions, I'm not sure it's actually worth the time to put together the responses.
My question is this, if I decide that I don't want to fight my smaller chargebacks, and just accept them through my merchant's interface, will that cause any consequences for my merchant account? By accepting them, am I going to trigger some sort of flag on the processor's side since I'm effectively saying that the customer is correct and that it really was fraud, or that we didn't refund them, or whatever? That's not the case at all, but I would rather write off some of those chargebacks as a cost of doing business than redirect resources to responding to them. I'm well under my account's chargeback expectation (they say not to go over 1%, and we're well under that), but I still want to be cautious.
Maybe I'm a little paranoid because the place I used to work had a terrible problem with chargebacks and was constantly at risk of losing their accounts and ability to accept cards (manufacturing business, sales outgrew their ability to produce), but I just want to be sure before I go ahead and accept these chargebacks.
Any experience or advice is welcome.
Thank you!

Company Using my company name
Today I discovered a company that is using my company name. It is selling many of the same types of products. I first discovered them on facebook where they seem to be new this year. Looking at their domain which is very similar to mine it is new this year also. I'm not so worried about them competing with me, but more worried it could damage my company name. I don't think a serious business person would take somebodies company name like this so it could be a scam to customers or just provide really bad service. So what should I do now? Think I want to complain for Trademark infringement on facebook to hopefully get them removed, what other options do I have? Should I have a legal trademark for my company name? I have never bothered, but have been in business only since 2000 so obviously have the best claim to it. My company name is also a popular search term and I am the first result.
Insurance Questions
Hey all,
I have an LLC. I'm the only member. It's a home based business. I design and manufacture and sell products. I make a wide range of things.
I don't make lawn darts, but there is a possibility of someone hurting themselves. Think of selling a knife. Chances are if you cut yourself, it's you fault, but still, I feel I need some insurance.
The LLC itself should cover me personally, however, I've read, sometime courts will ignore that and go after the person. So, I'm thinking as my next level of coverage is to add a second member onto the LLC, probably my sister, as a non-paid VP type.
I'm also looking for product insurance. Does anyone recommend any companies to use?
Thanks

Calling all business owners and managers help a student out!
Hi all,
my name is Samantha Cole, and I am a senior Entrepreneurship major at Eastern Michigan University. I am currently enrolled in a field study class, that has tasked me with conducting a feasibility study for a new small-business co/op specializing in work with restaurants. The goal of the survey is to conduct and analyze market research pertaining to small businesses and their needs, how to increase success rates of small ventures, and how to bolster business at the local level. As proven members of the community, I am reaching out today to ask for your assistance in this project. The survey takes less than 5 minutes, and will greatly assist us in bringing to market an idea that will help the "local small business community" as a whole!

Have you heard of any social media marketing company wanting a % of your business?
I will try to make this quick. We sell a product and one of our sales people, who really has done great, has come up with this idea for us to do social media marketing, he wants a percentage of sales because he will really be doing all the work which is fine but he feels we need to hire a social media company that has only been around a year or 2 who is "hungry" to work and will work on commission and who will want 25% of our company as ownership because he thinks they will work harder then anyone else. I have never heard of any social media company wanting ownership of a company they are working with. Have you?
*Mind you this isn't our product, my mom owns the product we just buy it off of her wholesale and sell it. We would be promoting our own website. So he wants to give up a % of our company we are building with a product we don't own.

Mobile App for your small business - Native or Web?
Hi all, just wanted to ask everyone's opinion and feedback on this subject. As a small business owner, if you find that you would like to have a mobile application built around your business, would you prefer a web mobile friendly version of your website, or would you rather have a "Native" application instead? What I mean by "Native" is that the application will be written in the programming language specific to the device's Operating System (OS). For example on Android devices, it'll be Java or Objective-C for iOS.
I ask because it seems to me that most prefer to have a mobile site instead of native. I've had 2 clients already talk to me about creating a mobile application, but both times the idea of having a native application built is shut down, or they were completely turned off by the idea. I tried to explain to them both having a native app for their target device has advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages of course is that a native app will have the "look, feel and behavior" of any other app on the device since it's "running" directly on the device's OS. Second, native apps can be submitted to the app market such as Google Pay Store and iTunes. On the other hand, I've told them that an obvious disadvantage is that we would then have to create a separate app for each device they want to target. There are ways around this however, and you can make native apps that target multiple platforms under one single source code, but it's a little more complicated than that.
I'm not simply just trying to make a sale off them and try to pitch to them that they should have a native app, but sometimes a mobile web app just isn't doing the job. For example, one of the clients' app does some heavy calculations behind the scenes and takes advantage of the phone's camera. I think this should be a good candidate for a native app as opposed to running it on the phone's browser, where you can see the "sluggish" behavior clearly, correct? Or am I just being too picky here maybe? =)
Anyways, I just wanted to get feedback from everyone to see which they would prefer. Thanks.

Angel Investor for a financial product - Platform Provider
Hello guys
It's my first post asking for investor so I will try to make as much clear I can.
What I have created
The last 2 years me and my team created a social trading platform for financial market. We launch it before 7 months and the statistics through google analytics are very good. The main difference of other platforms is that we have all the social facilities and basic trading tools. We did it for be an entertainment platform
Youtube video of our platform: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cBZfd8g0_k
Youtube video of other platforms: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkWLMWti8mo
How I advertising my product
As I mention my mainly product is the platform but also I created 5 more products to help me on the advertising.
1) Forex VPS Hosting provider. People who owns a VPS in the Forex Market mean they are active traders. So Then I have chance to convert it to real customer
2) Binary Options Portal network: I have 20 country super domains with the market name. I create bonus portals and when I will start see results after 6 months the most of the users when they will get registered , they will come to my platform
3) Traditional SEO
4) Ecommerce shop. My uncle has got a shop in my country with more than 10.000 products and I include them in my e-commerce shop. So to make tournaments and have some gifts in my platform.
5) Social community where people can chat between them with a very entertainment way
6) Casino & Arcade games just for entertainment.
Our problem and we are looking for investor
1) We don't have real market data in the platform. For that reason we advertise our product that is a game.
2) We get leads every day but we can't convert them.
3) We need to work as much as we can in our project.
How an investor will help us
1) We will switch our fake market data to real so we can become platform providers.
2) We will hire 2 people. 1 for sales and 1 more developer.
Does the site has got any revenue now?

How the investor will make money from this?
1) We will be platform providers - If you google this, platforms providers cost at least 10.000$ + monthly fee
2) We will create a Forex white label from the day one that the investor will come. White label is the term when an other company gives you their platform. Usually cost around 10.000$ but because we have good product we can get it for free with revenue share. The main problem is that in this industry we need someone to call our clinets
2a) ***We have binary options platform and not Forex. Forex can just help us to make revenue from the first month until we build anythng we want
3) Forex VPS Hosting: I have statistics from google keyword planner that the term forex vps has got monthly searches of 15.000. I got partnership with one of the biggest VPS providers in the world. If we establish go to first page then we will start revenue.
4) Binary Options Network portals. through media buys ads.
How much we need?
We need around 50-80.000$ for the next 6 months.
If i forgot anything let me know or ask me. The opportunity is really good. We know what we are doing but to go to next level we need an investor.
1) We have through media buy advertisments. That can be go much better when we will rank on keywords. For example every month we could make 2-3.000$ through advertisments. When we will rank on the keywords it wil

Company Formation
Hello,
I and some friends are interested in, starting a business. We heard about business formation companies in UK that help you to set up and run your business, but we have some questions. Firstly, what are the responsibilities each of us is going to
have? Secondly, as we are not from UK, our company will be taxed in our country or in England, and how will be taxed each of us? Also, what these kind of companies actually offer?
Thank you in advance for your help!

eCommerce security: the 7 things you should do first
#1 is something I (and many others here) say over and over again. Choose a good host. Do your homework. Don't base this decision on price. I see so many people cheap out on hosting for their most important business asset and it always ends up being tragic.
If you can't afford to spend much money on the thing that is responsible for where the money comes in, then you need to re-evaluate whether or not you can afford to be in business.
In fact, the very first step you take should be choosing a reputable, reliable host that makes site security one of their top priorities. You shouldn’t put your new store just anywhere — making a poor choice could put both you and your customers at risk.

How many different ecosystems are you on?
Not sure if the day will ever come where all tech ecosystems work together. There's a lot of cross over and jerry rigging you can do, but for the most part everyone is trying to win and want you to use only theirs.
With that said I was wondering how many different platforms people are using for different tech functions and features and how it's working out.
I'm sure like me none of us set out to have multiple platforms going, it's just that none are a complete solution for everything.
Currently I use products and software for both business and entertainment from Microsoft, Android, Google ( which is kind of separate), Apple ( just iTunes), Amazon (everything), Roku, and Samsung.
Probably the best working relationship between products is Microsoft and Google. Neither has everything I want alone, but together it's a good mix. They both make it easy to use your Google/Android stuff with Microsoft stuff. Which is actually kind of shocking considering where it looked like it was headed.
There's a lot of crossover of course. For instance XBOX does the basic things that I use Roku for, but doesn't have all of the channels I like. And Chromecast works better with my Google Music, but is limited in other areas. And still sometimes I just plug an HDMI into my laptop and use that to stream podcasts and such.
Google Now is great if you have a phone in your hand, but for other times and home automation Echo is pretty awesome.
Still never used Cortana.
It sounds complicated, but it's really not. And to be fair I don't need it all.. I'm just constantly curious and like trying new tech and services. For the entertainment stuff, I'm still trying to find that right mix that lets me ditch cable once and for all. I'm really sick of their crap and the archaic way that they still do business and offer services. Not to mention that paying for commercial television still burns my tamales. But that's another rant.
How many different platforms are you guys on? But the big question is does anyone get everything they need from just one?

How to use Snapchat to market your small business
My colleague recently published a post about marketing on Snapchat, but I wanted to share a short and sweet version here.
Full details: Snapchat Marketing: How to Use Snapchat to Market your Small Business!
"What is the big deal with Snapchat & how can I use Snapchat to market my small business?"
This is a question I am seeing all over the Internet lately.
Most people think Snapchat is a way to send a NSFW photo only to have it disappear within seconds. Others think it's just a place to take a picture of yourself puking a rainbow.
How to Use Snapchat Infographic
So, what is Snapchat and why is everyone talking about it?
Snapchat is an app that allows users to create snaps which are photos or short videos. These snaps can be sent to a users friends or added to a story- a collection of photo and/or video-based snaps that live for any followers to see for 24 hours from posting time.
Snaps, in their nature, are fleeting moments unlike the often highly-curated and planned photos created on the visual powerhouse, Instagram.
Once a user creates the snap, they have the option of adding text, stickers, emojis, geotags, playing a video snap backwards, fast forwarding or even drawing on the image or video. In addition, using the front-facing camera, a user can use an ever-changing variety of faces, morphing a user into anything from a cat to a wide eyed version of themselves puking a rainbow, because why not?
All of that sounds fun (and it is!) but what does Snapchat have to do with your small business?
Snapchat boasts over 100 million daily users. 65% of Snapchat users are active and collectively create approximately 400 million snaps a day! Another huge draw for Snapchat is its user base. With 60% of smartphone users between the age of 13-34 active on Snapchat, it taps into a huge Millennial market for businesses.
Due to the high usage by Millennials, large businesses & brands are latching onto Snapchat. They use it to promote and provide access to live events, to engage followers by creating specialized content, to offer promotions and giveaways and to partner with other influencers to further engage a potential customer base. This is just a small sampling of some of the ways a business can use the app.
Additionally, Snapchat has been implementing huge changes throughout the app that make it much more than a place to take throwaway pictures. These changes have resulted in the average Snapchat user spending 25-30 minutes on the app everyday.
What are people doing for 25-30 minutes everyday?
Aside from creating, sending and watching snaps, users can also access news and content from huge brands. Discover, for example, can be accessed by swiping left on the camera screen, Here, you will find channels from both old and new school media outlets. These powerhouse channels include WSJ, Daily Mail, Buzzfeed, Mashable and more. Other brands, like Burberry, have run 24 hour content on Snapchat, a campaign that reportedly cost the high-end luxury brand anywhere from $50,000 to $100,000.
While a $50,000 or $100,000 24-hour advertisement campaign is not likely in the budget for a small business, the move in the direction of native advertising bodes well for the future of Snapchat brand visibility.
How businesses use Snapchat marketing everyday (and how your small business can, too!):
1. Coupons or Giveaways!
Some businesses run giveaways and contests through their snapchat accounts. This offers a great way for current and potential customer bases to get excited about the brand and share their own stories.
A great way companies have promoted flash offers is by posting the deal to your story. This offer or code will have a 24 hour limit that expires once the story is no longer live. A great example of a big brand using Snapchat for this purpose is GrubHub. GrubHub has used series of snaps to reveal discount codes, enact an interactive scavenger hunt and even to hire interns from their own company. If there is a company that has utilized Snapchat to its full potential, it is probably GrubHub!
2. Behind the Scenes Access
Another great opportunity to engage (for free) with your customers is by posting behind the scenes access to your business. Aer Lingus, for example, has taken followers into the cockpit of their airplanes via snaps.
HubSpot is a good example of a company currently using SnapChat to showcase a ton of behind-the-scenes footage. They showcase different offices around the world, products they use at HubSpot and their own employees at work.
3. Sneak Preview
Snapchat can also be used as a hype tool, as if there is anything more Millennial than that! Some companies can post daily snaps announcing a countdown or a sneak peek to a new product or service.
Taco Bell, NARS and Acura all gave a preview of their new products in exchange for a follow on Snapchat. Small businesses could easily build excitement with sneak peeks or countdowns! A restaurant, for example, could preview an upcoming dessert special by posting a series of snaps depicting a pastry chef creating it! This is a proven engagement tactic as users love to go behind-the-scenes.
4. Live Events
Live events are hugely popular on Snapchat, whether planned or unplanned. A few notable events that gained exposure on Snapchat are Coachella (planned) and the mid-Atlantics Snowmaggedon (unplanned).
A small business could utilize this by snapping its own special event or by engaging in the events going on around you. Is there a music festival going on down the street from your small business? Snap about it!
5. Have Fun
A business could also use Snapchat for its initial intention, to have fun! Some brands will engage their followers by asking a question or encouraging them to share a doodle. Of course, you could turn this into a contest or coupon giveaway. Sometimes users are satisfied solely by the exclusive customized content being delivered to their phones by their favorite businesses and brands. Snapchat allows users to interact on a very personalized level (a handwritten, exclusive snap!) unlike anything you could share on Facebook or Twitter.
Again, GrubHub is a shining example of a company using Snapchat to its full fun potential. Check out this PR Case Study of all the different ways GrubHub has combined these different methods of engaging with its followers.
As with any social media platform, with a little trial & error, you will find out what works best when it comes to marketing your small business. Some businesses live and die for Facebook and others find it useless. In terms of marketing and engagement, Snapchat is an incredibly versatile app. With a little creativity, there are endless ways to engage, entertain and delight your followers!
What do you think? Anyone have any experience using Snapchat for their business?

Computers
We began using computers at our business in 1994. My father chose Mac because they didn't crash, didn't get viruses, and had their own operating system. We had to have someone build business software for us and it did not do accounting (just sales). We still use the quoting part of that software today. We still do our accounting on a ledger and we must change to doing this on a computer. I've only ever used Mac and I barely understand them. I've always wanted us to change to PC but we never did. We currently use File maker pro and Quickbooks online.
I believe I need the all in one software; sales, inventory management and accounting. But best I can tell only Quickbooks offers this with Premier, and only for PC. They may with Enterprise but I cannot tell from their youtube videos.
Do I change to PC even though I've never used one? I believe I could learn it fairly easy. My mom still works with me and I hate to have her try and learn PC, she's terrible with Mac. I could hire someone who understood PC, and they could learn/do my mom's job. But then they know more about my computers than I do, and they would be handling the accounting (a little concerning).
We use Quickbooks online and there are third party apps for sales and inventory that work with QBO, but I do want certain features and either I cannot contact the developers to answer my questions or they just don't offer the features. They want you to download and try their software but I'm so bad with computers that would be a disaster.
I had one guy come here an propose building an all in one for me for Mac, but I didn't get a good vibe from the situation. I haven't contacted consulting companies because they seem to advertise to larger businesses.
I left a lot out. Its a deep multifaceted problem.
Questions and thoughts are welcome.

Day Trading
Hey All!
I have been contemplating starting a business. There are two questions I would like your feedback on. Recently, I have spent time on websites looking at existing businesses to purchase. Primarily, I have been using bizbuysell. Which brings me to my first question:
1) Are these type of websites legit and can they be trusted?
I recently found an online business that does day trading from that website. It seems like a good investment. You purchase the trading software that they have, which is 7K. They provide webinars to teach you the ins and outs of trading along with lifetime support. So this leads me to my next question:
2) Are these softwares that help you select when to buy and sell stocks reliable?
When I spoke to the gentleman selling the software, he basically said the it uses an algorithm that analyzes what's going on in the market which takes a lot of the headache and stress out of the work so you can focus just on buying and selling. It seems a little too easy and good to be true. I will be attending the free webinar tomorrow to see how exactly the software is used in real time. Any input from your experience in this field would be much appreciate. Thank you!

First time using kickstarter, how do I best build up "fans" before I launch campaign?
Hi, I am about to launch my kickstarter campaign in the next two weeks. I am new to social media marketing and promotion. I have read that you should have a following before you start your campaign. How do you best promote your product before it launches? I have set up a Facebook page and paid for Facebook ads and got about 37 likes in a week, but all of these are just average people, they don't show any connection with the tech repair industry at all. I am selling magnetic repair training guides to aid in disassembling electronics like smartphones, computers and video game systems. The people who "liked" my page from Facebook ads would most likely not back this product based on their Facebook page and that they have no job or education in technology.
Are there any forums or sites that let you post your campaign so others can view it or even be interested in backing it once it goes live? Its hard to find any that don't have strict rules to not post your campaign or require you to subscribe and pay a fee to join.
Also, kickbooster.me claims to "boost" your campaign by giving "boosters" a portion of your funding as payment of sharing your campaign on social media. is this a good idea or bad idea?
Thanks for the advice.

E-Commerce website cost
We're considering opening an e-commerce business. It would be for both the general public as well as providing a product for a specific industry for resale (with that being our primary source of business). Our business clients would have a different price than our general public clients. Any ideas on what to expect for the cost of building this website initially? For maintaining the website?
Any other website consideration for e-commerce would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Work out biz value
Hi
I'm doing some projections to arrive at a vlue of a biz in 5 yrs. I've come up with the revenue, GP and NP plus the amount to invest from an Angel funder. I've got benchmarks from similar businesses.
I've done a FV, Pre/Post money value, DCF, ROI, ROR, IRR, Cash on Cash, P/E Ratio, etc, etc... but all only serve to confuse me further as none match or link in... I'm a lay person so have become a little confused with all these differing methods...
I have it all in a spreadsheet (some of the calcs may be wrong), -pls see attached.

Help finding cheap custom-print boxes/polybags for shipping
Hi all,
We are a tech company located in Denmark.
We are currently looking to find a supplier of custom printed boxes or polybags (e.g. a white/black box with our logo printed on the lid).
- Our batch sizes would ideally be in the area of 50-100
- Our product is small and ideally, we would be able to customize box sizes, but alternatively small boxes would do (ala W: 7 cm; H: 14 cm; D: 4 cm).
Do you have any suggestions for cheap, fair quality solutions that ship internationally?
Thank you,
Martin

Small Business Challenges
What kinds of business challenges/problems do you face as a small business owner? I mean anything from managing inventory, employees, cost management, brand management, marketing, or any other number of issues that you feel is a problem that many large corporations have solutions for that small business have a hard time accessing or implementing.
Scope of Project Implementation
Hello,
I've been asked to write about Scope of Project Implementation (word limit 150) of a project I've been developing. But I am not quite sure what exactly did they expect in 150 words.
Here's the scenario of the business I am developing,
Bapock.com wants to be the leading health and beauty online retailer. Our purpose is to help people find good quality products for a safer, healthier & beautiful life. Our mission is, To be the first choice of health & beauty online shopping platform for people across the country
Could someone guide me about writing the Scope of Project Implementation?
Any advice is highly appreciated.

LLC Question
I have a question about LLC's. I've decided that an LLC is the best business entity for my me - I sell hard products to a very niche market from a single online storefront. I've just been filing as a proprietorship but it no longer makes sense - my sales are getting significant and I want the protection of an LLC because one of my products carries some potential liability - it's a woodworking tool and anything can happen using sharp objects. I do have liability insurance for this product but I still want another level of protection.
I plan to form a single member company in New Mexico and not not file a form 8832 so that it is not treated as a corporation by the IRS. I'm also opening a Shopify storefront as my current website is outdated - it's on G page 1 but only because it's so niche - with better SEO it should easily climb to the top where it used to be before websites went to responsive SEO leaving my archaic website in the dust. I have settled on Shopify as the best fit for me. But they need an EIN or TID as part of the registration process.
It's my understanding that since I'm filing as a single member LLC with me as the member, and not filing a form 8832 that I don't need to ask the IRS for an EIN and that I should just use my SSN as the TIN for my Company. Does this sound correct?
P.S. For those that like to give the pat reply to see an attorney and CPA I will, just trying to collect preliminary info so I'm not totally ignorant going in. Thanks.

Is guest blogging still worth it?
Matt Cutts declared guest blogging dead back in 2014 saying that it had become too spammy yet in Moz's recent survey, guest posting was the number one link building tactic that people use.
Is it still a viable way to create contextual backlinks or is it really dead as an SEO tactic?

How to turn 300k capital into income
Any help VERY much appreciated. I have capital looking to start a new business or purchase an existing business. I dont have skills though.
What is the best way to acquire skills so I can turn this 300k into an eventual income of 80-100k net a year?
Most of the business I see selling for 150k down or less dont provide enough income.
Would it be possible to put down 200k and get a bank loan or an owners note for a business selling for 800k that nets more?

Hey gang! Is this helpful when thinking about leadership?
It was a strange and unexpected awakening. And something I wish Id learnt a lot earlier!
I love Sundays and I was sleeping in after a long week when something snapped me awake, as if some strong hand reached down and pulled me toward the light.
Let me give you some background. I used to own a cocktail bar and I was a pretty intense boss a control freak convinced that no one could do a better job than me. In some ways that was true- I had been working in bars since I was 18 and had nearly 20 years experience working at some of the best bars in the world. I was extremely confident in my job and I took great pride in the way that I did it.
This attitude also got results. The bar was successful, it had won numerous awards and as a result I only hired the best people. It was a great bar.
Yet for all of that I was still working 80-hour weeks and only just getting by financially. There was always someone or something I could blame, so it took me a long time to figure out that I was actually my biggest problem.
Like most bartenders I was a glory hog. My default style of management was to take tasks away from my team, rather than empowering them to do a great job without me. When they messed up I would resign myself to my falsely held truth you just cant find good staff!
Sound familiar?
Then it all started to fall apart. A couple of great guys quit because they couldnt stand my management style. Im fortunate that one of them cared enough to tell me, and Im grateful I had the humility to take it on board.
Once I gave my team more responsibility a funny thing started to happen. They responded to my trust and really started taking the tasks on board. They were so enthusiastic that they started to come up with their own ideas on how we might improve things. And for the first time I was actually open to receive them. The tide of control had turned and I gained a very helpful insight
Its not hard to find great staff, its to find great bosses.
Basically we are talking about becoming a leader in your business, not just an owner or a manager. And this change in approach is a two-step process.
The first step is to cut the criticism. Very few people actually work harder when you criticize everything they do. Most people try their best for a while and then settle into average performance. They know that youll never appreciate their best efforts so theres no incentive to be better. Instead, set up clear performance guidelines so that everyone knows what success and failure look like, take the time to support your team and then give them the freedom to find their own way to the goal.
The second step is to pounce on the positive. Actively look for opportunities to praise your team celebrate their success. There is a reason that sporting teams celebrate each time they score (and its not because they like group hugs). When you celebrate your victories you reinforce the behaviour that created that result.
Before this Id never really thought about leadership. It always seemed to relate to people greater than me sporting heroes, politicians, captains of industry. But that morning I realized that it relates to all of us. There is always an opportunity for each of us to be leaders in our life. As a small business owner it definitely relates to how we choose to lead our team. Once I gave my team clear goals and actively celebrated their efforts they blossomed in the light of my recognition and praise. Without really trying I moved from manager to leader and my team moved from good to great.
Small shifts in thinking can lead to big shifts in results. For me, this was one of those small shifts. And the result was the difference between working 80 hours a week and just getting by, to working 30 hours a week and getting rich.
So if youre a small business owner then hopefully this simple idea can help move you from stuck to inspired, it can help you take your business to the next level and it can finally allow you to claim back your life.

Inventory tracking
Hello All!
We have had issues keeping track of inventory and currently use a spreadsheet to update what we have in stock. It has become quite a headache as things do not add up properly and when pulling parts from inventory we're either missing a few or end up finding out we don't have any in stock even though the spreadsheet says we got 5. What I need help on is basically finding a way to manage all of this and making sure they're accurate. Just to give you an idea, we're a service center and pull parts frequently to make repairs on units. We have about 4 technicians that update the spreadsheet and most likely it is human error causing the miscount on what we actually have. It's understandable that they may forget sometimes when you're doing many things at once to be sure that they have updated the inventory with parts used.
I'm trying to find a solution whether it is web based or software I can install on a separate machine where people have access to it, to manage all this stuff. Ideally I'd like to have a form that would be filled out with drop down selections that deducts from the stock inventory when the form is submitted. Is there some kind of software out there that could do what I want? Any guidance pointed to the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I apologize if what I'm looking for sounds confusing.
Thanks!
Mike

Why Bank Why?
My parents and I share ownership of our office warehouse. My parents want some liquidity and want me to purchase their share, and I want to purchase it. We have no idea the value of the property. You could say $180,000 or $480,000 we have no idea. I contact an appraiser and he says, "I can do it but it will not be official for a bank, they have to issue their own appraisal." I'm no dummy, I'll ask the bank to get their official appraisal and I'll have an idea the value of the property - two birds one stone. Only the bank says they cannot request for an appraisal unless I apply for a loan. You heard right. The bank wants me to put the cart before the horse. I have to ask for an amount of money - when I don't have any idea how much money I have to ask for. Or waste $1000 getting an appraisal that's only good for me. Plus there's nothing like getting a mortgage when you are self employed. They want a stack of information as thick as a bible. The business is cash heavy. I'm considering getting the non official appraisal and just giving myself a bonus to cover the cost of purchasing the property.
I can help!

Merchant Cash Advance for new business?
Hello. I started a salon suite about 2.5 months ago using my own money. Although I'm bringing in about 14,000 a month, the startup costs are costing more than I thought and coming so fast.
Basically, my question is, do you know of any merchant cash advance lenders who don't require 6+ months in business or great credit (mines not the best and getting worse daily). I already have a side job to try to keep afloat knowing that I just need to get thru the next few months. I'm looking for 5-10k. Thanks for any advice!

Social Media Website
I have recently launched a social media website for business professionals and small businesses to network with. I have attempted various methods to get people to sign up to this site with minimal results. i have tried Fiverr gigs, Facebook ads and social media sharing. I have had bad experiences with google ads in the past by paying a lot of money and not getting any clicks so I don;t want to go there.
Does anyone have any good experiences with internet advertising and would you recommend anyone for this?

Class project regarding small businesses' experiences with Alibaba
Hello everyone, I am a student at Northwestern University working on a project for a business course I am taking.
I would like it if people here could share stories of their experiences of having worked with foreign suppliers via Alibaba. Perhaps you were uncomfortable about payment processes, experienced a language barrier issue, were outright scammed, or had a seamless business transaction - I would like to hear all kinds of stories, and the more detail the better. If you have previously posted elsewhere on the forum about your experience, and just want to link to it in the responses, that would be great too. (I used the search function, but didn't quite find what I'd be looking for.)
I appreciate it - thank you!

What would you do? We are a popular web design company not sure what the next step is
Quick summary:
We have been in business about 4 years. Our average sales income annually started low and right now were almost at 800k annually. However we do have a few issues and I hope there are a few here with experience to shed light on what we should do.
We specialize in niche markets. ie. Specific types of website designs and certain platforms. We have an actual location fully staffed office in New Jersey. However what has happened is that over the last couple of years this industry has become oversaturated. So of course there are a ton of other options plus there are premade themes out there.
Right now we don't have anybody who is specifically dedicated to our sales and marketing department. Whoever is available in the office at the time the calls come in handles sales and marketing. We do no outbound sales. Everything that we do is inbound nothing is cold calls. Even though we're still holding strong and currently generating more then 60,000 a month in sales I can't help but feel that if we don't change something that will start to go backwards. I see the trends in the market and the competition that is coming, at what point do you actually hire a marketer or a salesperson? This is the million-dollar question. I've got no idea what to do. Luckily for us everything that we get is either word-of-mouth, repeat business, or organic results. We do what we do extremely well but it would be great to figure out how to get customers who might not know that we exist. Or who might not know that they could benefit from our services.
For example I had a customer call last week because he happened to stumble on our website he was quoted over $10,000 for a site from a different company that we would design and develop for around $1800. He's extremely excited he put a deposit down we gave him a mockup and he's already asking for more business because he loves what we came up with. I want more people like this. I want people who realize that they don't have to spend a fortune to get a quality product. Problem is I don't know how to find them or get them without them finding us by accident. I've been told plenty of times our pricing is too low for what we give people however that's not what's important to me as a business owner that's why we make affordable websites for people.
I'm looking for some advice on if I should hire a full-time marketing person and what are the chances that they would actually be able to drive more business to our company? Would a full-time marketing person go out to other businesses in the area? These are things that I should know obviously because this is my industry but we focus so much on website development we've never gotten into this side.
Thanks a lot for listening have a great day!

Business Ideas and starting it while employed
I just started a job with good pay and really great benefits: 20 days pto, 20 sick days, 2 weeks off in December, 9 holidays off, 9% of my salary put in to retirement, free tuition, etc. Despite all of this, I still and always have dreamed about my own business. This has been a dilemma for years and I have no idea what my passion is and my interest always changes. How do you know what is your real passion (profitable)? I have to say, I can' t think of anything strong interests at the moment.
I did think of doggy daycares because I absolutely love dogs but after doing research it just looks like something I think is worth investing in to me and my lifestyle. I thought about fitness since I used to be in to it but I want a business where I don't have to be there and plus I love food way too much to advocate for healthy clean eating. I've thought about staffing agencies but after working in one I absolutely hate it. I do like my HR job so maybe I can do something with that some day....but really I have other stuff I think I'm more interested in.
I do really love and appreciate alcohol like craft beers, wine, and whiskies. I am definitely not an alcoholic but me and my boyfriend know how to make some good cocktails. I think we have a great taste for food and if I like a dish that tastes really good I learn to make it... A part of me is thinking about one of those chill bar hangouts with good beer, good appetizers and some easy eats, and just a good overall environment. Not like a neighborhood bar or anything like that.
My family does good with business. My parents, uncles and aunts own a business. My sister just bought her 2nd daycare. Also, she wanted to do a beauty salon and suggested I learn to do nails and beauty stuff but I don't think my heart is in it. I don't think I have much interest in it.
So what do you guys think about that "typical" idea of a nice craft beer place with many varieties plus cocktails and good appetizers and plates? Is it possible to open up a side business while being a full time employee? What kind of research would you do to get this started?
Thanks!

What Legal Steps Should I Take To Protect Myself and My Company?
Let me tell you what we're already doing: Ryan, who is currently enrolled in college for server administration (yes, he changed majors he apparently really likes servers lol), and I want to take my web design business and turn it into a larger website management company. Once I have everything from the accident sorted out, which is going to cost $500 plus however much my premium goes up, we're going to write a business plan, marketing plan, and financial plan. We may even write a special Stacktron plan in case we end up in the same exact situation Stacktron got into when it failed.
Now here comes the fun legal stuff: Since I actually made money from the buyout of Stacktron my parents have begun to take my business ventures a lot more seriously, and they're on board for whatever I need to do that involves them. We're going to register the company in Delaware and operate in New Hampshire at a small office space we're renting for $300 a month. We are going to register the company as a c-corporation. My ownership will be cosigned by my parents until I turn 18 along with them acting as my proxy if needed. My dad also wants to buy 1% of the company and then wants to sell it once I turn 18 to me making me the majority shareholder in the company. I will own 11% at that point and Ryan will own 10% assuming he doesn't buy more.
I have a few questions for all you SBFers: Other than our partnership agreement, should I have a pre-made NDA written up for our clients to sign? Should I write an agreement for them to sign unless they decide they want to write it?
Since we're on the topic of the company what steps should I take to hire independent contractors? If the workload becomes too much I want to hire on-site independent contractors to help with it and hire them as we expand into other things like graphic design, financial management, business development, etc. as I already do business development, financial advisory, and website design for a few local companies in my area. However, if we make enough money to I want to begin to hire employees to the company within the next 5 years. What should I do there?
Thanks guys c:

Identifying and preventing negative SEO attacks
Since most blackhat techniques are dead, unscrupulous webmasters and SEO companies have resorted to raising their own sites, by taking down yours. It gets more and more common everyday and I see it A LOT.

What is hreflang? And should you be using it in your SEO?
I know a lot of people over the years have struggled with having multiple sites with similar content. hreflang is not for multiple sites with the same content..such as MFA's or spam sites. It's for multiple language or different geo targeting sites.
What is hreflang?
hreflang is a technical SEO solution for sites that have similar content in multiple languages. A site owner wants search engines to point people to the most fitting language. Say a user is Dutch, the page that ranks is English, but theres also a Dutch version. You would want Google to show the Dutch page in the search results for that user. This is the type of problem hreflang was designed to solve.
Yoast wrote a pretty detailed article on what hreflang is and how it works here:

Facebook live streaming is now up and running for everyone
Remember when Meerkat was supposed to be the next new hot thing? Then Twitter opened Periscope and immediately killed them.
Now Facebook is in the game and has live streaming and it's open to anyone.
The marketing implications are pretty huge for people who know how to leverage it.
Have decent mobile phone, a plan, some basic skills and some talent and that's all you need.
You can see who in the world is broadcasting live at all times at
http://ift.tt/1RE0Wps
Here are instructions on how to do it yourself
http://ift.tt/1OAcmcL
I think this is another game changer and opens up access to live streams as well as the ability to live stream to any and everyone.
What do you guys think?

How well do you practice online/tech security?
I'm kind of an "enthusiast" about keeping people out of my stuff. I encrypt, I back up multiple places, I don't use offline storage for important items, I don't use the same emails for everything, I have alarms set, hidden cams, "self destruct" software, and about a million other things that I do. I'm at the point now where I don't event trust the crap ware on a new computer. First thing I want to do is replace the drive and install my own OS.
Much of it is because I'm online all of the time and probably read more than I should about threats, vulnerabilities and attacks. And also because I work on at least one hacked website a week and have for about 2 years straight.
When it comes to my devices I don't like anyone touching them. Even just passing a new phone to a friend to let them check it out makes me nervous. I also don't trust other people's computers and would never do anything sensitive on someone elses device. "What do you mean you don't have a VPN? I'm not touching that thing."
I'm also a total privacy nut when it comes to the people vs. the government and don't trust anything until a court rules on this issue. I've seen too many, even local police, violate the privacy of someone's mobile device under the excuse of "suspicious behavior" and it's out of control. I remember when having a pager was suspicious enough to prompt police to put you in cuffs and search. Things haven't changed much depending on who you are. I'd rather destroy it than to have it accessed without a warrant. And honestly, there's nothing on it. Just a regular phone with music and contacts on it. It's just the principle.
I'm also of the opinion that most people have crap security and all of their devices are infected because they don't know what they're doing. I know it's not a correct assumption, but that's just how approach everything.
On the other hand I shop online all of the time, use mobile payment systems, use some public wifi, love NFC and Android bean, and generally trust technology as long as I'm in control of setting it up.
I know I'm just a paranoid freak who thinks if you let your guard down for a second some script or virus is out there ready to get you. If there was an equivalent word for hypochondriac as it pertains to tech security, I probably have that. I accept that as my issue and understand that there is no such thing as completely secure. But it's also kind of fun.
But what about you guys? How well do you practice online and tech security overall? Do you care?
Is it one of those things that you know you need to get around to but never do?

Hi All!-they call me Brian Davis
They call me Brian Davis, which isn't really that significant since that is my real name. Sometimes I kinda wish I had a more unique or memorable name, but hey, ya gotta work with the hand you're dealt, right?
So, Hello there. Let me tell you just a tiny bit about me. Not too much though, cause between you and me, I'm sure you are the more interesting one. :) I have had a couple of businesses during my career. I have worked with and for a bunch of other people's startups and helped them get off the ground and expand their territory. I have been involved in just about every part of the security world and have just recently started SecurityGrinder.com. I am working on a new podcast and developing resources and content to help both small businesses in general as well as security professionals who want to start and grow their own businesses.
Why small businesses? I personally believe that small businesses and family are two corner stones that make for a strong economic foundation. I believe that small businesses and families need to protect themselves not only from the real risks to their peace-of-mind and prosperity, but also from falling prey to fear tactics that would cause them to spend more and sacrifice more freedoms on security than they really need.
That's basically why I am starting this new business. I want to make a difference. I know quite a bit, but I don't know everything; about business or about security. So the SecurityGrinder.com site, Grinder Media, and the Podcast Show will help me continue to learn about two areas I think are so very important while at the same time helping others take care of what they have and are building.
So please, drop me a line if you have any questions about security for your business. I am not selling anything. I'm just looking to help and for some help. I am currently building content for the website and working on a book for small business owners. Your questions will help me as much as hopefully my answers or directions to others who have the answers will help you.
Thanks so much, and lets talk soon.

Nursing Home Care Plan
My name is Carmen Arzaga-Vega and I am a senior in high school. At our school, all seniors are required to complete senior project where we focus on something that we would want to learn. For my senior project, I decided to create a nursing home care plan. I have completed my business plan. Due to my plan being 30+ pages long, I would really like some pointers on what parts of my plan that I should focus when presenting this to a panel. Thanks!

Is this a monopoly or something else?
Is a company considered a monopoly if they own businesses in more than 1 market or is there a different name for that type of business? Also, does this term change depending how big they are in one market compared to the other.
For example: Say like a corporation owns a restaurant company, knife company, mining company, farming company, water company, electricity company, and finally a farm company.

I Literally Got In 2 Accidents In One Day
Figured I'd share a cute story here. Today it is snowing pretty badly and it's icy. I was driving to a client's business and on the way everyone started breaking really hard. I was kind of far behind the guy in front of me, and he started to slide a little. I slid a lot and my car smacked the back of his car. Here's some pictures of the accident:
My car:
First guy's car:
The second accident occurred literally 5 minutes later. I turned around in a gas station and some guy drove into my car when he was pulling out of the gas pump. I flipped on him :p Probably shouldn't have but I was already in shock from the first one. I don't have any pics. His car has no damage, he did dent the side and hit the mirror. I hate Maine :(

Funding investor
Hey guys, so I am trying to find an investor for my client. My original investor had to pull out funds due to family emergency and left me in a pickle.
Any help would be very appreciative. I'll even pay a referral fee if a person you know takes on my client.
I am presenting Sportzfund, a fundraising website who obtained a partnership with WhitePoint and United fundraising. The key to this project is this partnership where whitepoint provided a network of 4 million donators and their success history with plugging a company into their network and receiving high sales.
An investment of 80-250k will be used to create ad pieces (see attachment ad) that will bring the 4 million donators to the site to donate and bring them back with incentives. The more investment achieved the greater of those 4 million people we can reach. Sportzfund can generate around 2 million in sales in the first full year conservatively. One ad piece is bought for 10 cents.
Collateral - This company is also back by KLG consulting (his consulting busines) with yearly revenue at 180,000. He will provide a base of 4200/month return guaranteed plus additional returns to meet the agreed upon ROI time frame.
My client cannot provide the funding on his own due to the quickness nature of the partnership and taking advantage of the upcoming football season.
Terms and conditions are negotiable and we look forward to speaking with you more.
For example - investment of 80-250k he is willing to pay a premium return of 35 percent. Within 15-18months.. Or is willing to give equity into the deal.

What's a good service for collecting company reviews?
I'd like to display some positive reviews on my site and increase my general "trust signal" area in the footer.

Tracking Commission Sales?
We recently took over an huge antique shop with thousands of items with tags saying who they belong too and the price. We get 30% commission for every item we sell. I was wondering how in the world we keep track of daily sales and then add up what each vendor made to send them their cut.
Right now our system is to write the vendor abbreviation (aka jk or pb) and item description and price on a piece of paper with the tag taped to it. Then we transfer that information to excel. Problem is, at the end of the month, we search one vendor to add it all up and it does show all that vendor sold. It also is not summing the total vendor sales. Does anyone have an easier suggestion for this kind of system? It is the end of the month and HOURS upon HOURS is being spent adding the tags, then double checking with Excel, then triple checking before finally coming up with the correct number for ONE vendor.

Long distance walking business idea
I am an experienced backpacker, and regularly go on long distance hikes. I just got back from a 36 day hitchhiking trip in which I travelled to 16 different states plus Washington DC with nothing but a backpack, and the clothes on my back. I've done this before, but this time was different in that I consistently updated my social media with posts of everything I was doing, and all the exciting places I walked to.
While I was doing this, several people messaged me, saying that they would like to have an adventure like the one I was on, but they didn't know how to start, they didn't have the gear, or they were too afraid to do it alone.
So an idea was planted in my mind to earn a small additional income by charging people to guide them on long distance walking and/or hitchhiking trips for groups of up to 3 or four people. This would include walking 10 to twelve hours a day and camping on the side of the road, or in motels along the way if they want to pay for that.
I would charge a rate of maybe $100 per day per group. I could stock up on gear and offer rentals if people don't have their own backpacks, sleeping bags, bivy sacks, or whatever. And since I am a photographer/videographer, I could also offer a video or photos of their adventure for an additional charge. Also, I would be willing to offer training/conditioning sessions before the trip to help prepare people who are not currently able to walk long distances.
The first potential problem that comes to my mind would be if someone were to be injured along the way. I don't have any experience owning a business, but I imagine that if someone is paying me to take them on a journey, they could sue me if they get hurt. Would it be enough to have them sign some kind of waiver beforehand that says I'm not liable for any injuries?
Other than that, I don't see any hangups that could come along or prevent me from following through on this. I'm not trying to make a living off this idea, just make some extra money doing the stuff I love to do while I am still young enough to do it.

Market research help for business plan
Hi everyone
I've got an idea for a business and I'm planning to get a bank loan. My business plan looks good, but the market research section is missing. I've been looking around to find a good market research company and there are so many of them, but they are all out of my budget.
I can do my market research after getting a loan (because I will have the money!), but how can I get some good data for low/no cost, before that point? I have considered surveymonkey and similar, but that requires pushing the link to other people, which I'm afraid will introduce bias and not very good answers. I want some good impartial data. Is this even possible with no budget?
Thanks in advance for any help

How To Start a New Web Design Studio?
Hi all,
Decided to start a new thread to say a couple of more words about the upcoming project of mine. Frankly speaking this is my 3rd startup because the previous two bursted up although they had been quite promising at the very beginning. A couple of years ago I was involved in one forex project where we were to provide consultancy, signals service, trust management and a few minor things. It died in 6 months due to conflict of interests between the traders. Maybe I was not that good in entrepreneurship but I dont give up and try out other promising startups.
I dont know what forces drove me to pick web design as a business industry but at the end of 2015 I purchased both the domain name and the platform for my future website. It was quite a spontaneous deal but I recalled my previous projects where hiring a reliable designer was tough and realized why dont I have my own team of designers, huh?
I met my bud in January and told him about the project. He was really excited about it and wanted to get into the biz.
At the moment there are 5 of us. A couple of our members have an experience in currency trading (me), MLM and e-marketing and the rest are professional designers. So weve decided to combine our knowledge to come up with the design studio. Pretty much thats it.
As of now we are at the following stage.
Things done:
Things to be done (a lot)
Guys I would appreciate any advice, questions, critics from your side. I am here to learn as web design is kinda new business for me. Does anyone of you have a design studio? How you promoted your first startups? Where did you get your first customers? I will definitely keep everyone posted on my progress. By the way have you ever worked with the people who did not believe that a project might be prosperous in the near future? Some of my team members saying if were not unique we wont get any customer then. Sounds very pessimistic to me however it might be true. But I think both hard work and patience will definitely pay off. What you think?
Thanks for your time!
